One drive has messed up my whole PC. How do I get my files back on my PC, and switch off one drive forever. (Please dont answer a question I did not ask)?

My 5 cents to this outrage.

I've got 2 account - one private and one **@**.onmicrosoft.com.

I've made this grave mistake to open a SharePoint folder in OneDrive while being logged on **@**.onmicrosoft.com.

OneDrive started to sync my local users files and moved the to some unspecified location.

As i recognized what it was doing - was to late.

On the next login - my all data were gone - all icons from the desktop are gone. Documents are gone.

It's YEARS of work!!

I'm switching to Linux. Bye bye!!

explorer isn't always intuitive. the layers of folders for user created files tends to get buried in "user" "13457" or something

I truly understand what you've gone through on this, seems like you are having issues with the OneDrive backup feature. This feature is intended to backup your files and store it to OneDrive cloud storage, on your scenario possible reason is that the Files on Demand is not properly configured that's why whenever you want to access the files it will need first to download the files from the cloud instead of it being always locally ready on your device storage. If you no longer want to use this feature and turn-off OneDrive, here are the steps you can perform:

Make sure to sync back the files first so that you can save a local copy of it:

1. Open OneDrive folder, then locate all of the files you want to retain.
2. Select all the files you want to retain, then right click and select "Always keep on this device" so that it will be saved locally on your storage. From there you should see this icon:

Once done saving back your files locally, you may proceed on unlinking your account on your OneDrive:

1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the OneDrive folder.
2. Right-click on the OneDrive folder and select "Settings".
3. In the "Account" tab, click "Unlink OneDrive".
4. Follow the prompts to complete the unlinking process.

OneDrive tried to force 100 GB of data into 5 GB of space. Now most of the elements have a red X, without explanation for what that means.

All elements now have "Always keep on this device" checked but there is no change.

The true documents folder just has a link:

"C:\Users\seat1\Documents\Shortcut to Documents (OneDrive - Personal).lnk"

I didn't ask for any of this. I do have a backup since this is a new PC and I just populated it from same.

Same here it's messed up my whole computer.

All of my locally saved files have somehow been corrupted and pathways are messed up now.

I can't even save locally.

When I remove onedrive and download my files before I remove it of course I can't even move the files to my desktop or to their original spot.

This has messed up my whole computer.
