Dear Microsoft Support Team,
I am writing to express my frustration with the customer service I received during a recent support session. My experience was disappointing, unprofessional, and far below the standard I expect from Microsoft.
I initially contacted support for assistance with an issue regarding folder encryption on my new laptop. After waiting in the queue for nearly an hour, I was connected with a representative, Jay-ar. Unfortunately, he was clearly too busy to offer adequate help. He repeatedly took 3 to 4 minutes between each of my questions and asked the same questions multiple times, which seemed like an intentional delay so he could handle other calls rather than focus on resolving my issue. When I asked to speak with another representative, he refused to transfer me.
It was evident that he was overwhelmed and handling multiple cases simultaneously. He even struggled to remember the details of my issue, which added to my frustration. Despite there being a clear solution for my problem in your troubleshooting resources, Jay-ar insisted that I upgrade to Windows 11 Pro, as it would be an easier fix for him, rather than taking the time to properly address the issue on Windows 11 Home. The folder encryption option on my laptop is greyed out, and I am aware that there are two potential solutions for this issue within your troubleshooting guides. However, the representative refused to assist me in applying these solutions.
Instead, he continued to push me toward an unnecessary upgrade to Windows 11 Pro for $100, as this would "resolve" the issue, even though my laptop met all hardware requirements, including TPM. It took over 20 minutes for me to get him to share my screen so I could show him that TPM was enabled, yet he still insisted that I pay the $100 for the upgrade, claiming that his troubleshooting service was free.
While his service may have been free for him, I spent almost 3 hours on this call—1 hour waiting in the queue and over 2 hours trying to resolve my issue, which I cannot get back. To make matters worse, the representative suggested I go to a store and request a free upgrade, which I find both insulting and unhelpful. As a customer, I believe it should be Microsoft’s responsibility to provide proper support and solutions, not push me to seek assistance elsewhere.
To top it off, for about 30 minutes, the representative tried to convince me that my laptop's hardware wouldn't support encryption. However, if I paid the $100 for the upgrade, the issue would “magically be resolved.” This felt like nothing more than an attempt to upsell me rather than providing the service I was seeking.
I am extremely disappointed by this experience and the lack of professional support I received. I expect a prompt and satisfactory resolution to my issue, as well as an explanation of why my support experience was handled so poorly.
Sincerely,
Francis M.
