Excel HTTP Error 400. The size of the request headers is too long

Good afternoon,

Today I was helping a user, Alice, change a picture in the header of an excel workbook. When Alice clicks the "picture" button in the ribbon under the "Header and footer" tab, instead of showing the dialog to pick a file to insert, the window that pops up says "HTTP Error 400. The size of the request headers is too long" with no other information.

Notably, if Bob, another user with an apparently identical account and user profile, tries to follow the same steps on the same computer as Alice, Bob is able to do so without receiving the error message.

We have tried the following:

Reinstall office365

Sign out of user account and back in

Split the document into smaller documents in case it was a file size issue

Running the repair tool for office365

Good morning! I am happy to say we found a solution! Unfortunately it was to reinstall Windows.

the following solution is also possible:

file - account - settings management - turn off optional online functions and done

I had the same issue. It's a simple fix that I just stumbled across.

File> Options> Advanced> General> Web Options> Files>

Just uncheck "Use long file names whenever possible"

Solution I found that works is to go to Account, Manage Settings, Turn "off" optional connected experiences.

Unfortunately, this solution did not work for me.

Background: another person in my office had the issue this thread is about. I could add the required picture in a different Excel document I had open, no problem. I tried opening his document on my computer, had the issue occur on mine, too. Then *I* had the issue on *any* Excel document on my computer, including a blank document!

These are desktop Excel documents, not Excel Online, so switching browsers is irrelevant.

A restart to the computer was not effective.

A restart after the online button was unticked (the fix described here) was not effective, issue recurred.

The pictures that need to be affixed are sitting in our company's Sharepoint, and not available offline. However, the error occurs (now that it's migrated to my computer, thanks guy) before you even get to choose the source, so even using a photo on the C: drive of the computer is not an option anymore.
