How can I reset the password to my child's account?

My children are unable to log into their accounts, and their accounts are linked with with mine in Family Safety. I am able to input all required information to identify their account in the account verification form, but they have not sent emails from their account. Every time I complete an account verification form, it tells me I haven't provided enough information. How can I provide more if they have never sent an email? It is VERY frustrating that as their mother, I am not able to help them reset their password and now their account and personal information is not within my control. Microsoft needs to fix this issue, I have read dozens of posts from frustrated parents about this.

    Same problem here.

    Created an account. Mistake the password.

    Tried to recover the password, filled in all the personal info. Results in not enough.

    More information is not possible to fill in. There is no emails sent, there are no previous passwords.

    So end up with a useless new account for my child?

    I want it back!

    Its crazy that this is such a big issue. They force you to create this email account in order to have a profile on the Xbox. We never use this email account for anything so there is no data to give them. Then randomly a few months after the account creation they locked my kid out of their Xbox profile because we don't remember the password. All the saved game data and the gamer tag are now lost. Sony doesn't do this. I don't even know why they need me to sign into the email account to access the Xbox profile. This seems to have been an issue for the last few years and Microsoft just doesn't care. They continue to says its to protect the account but this account is added to the Xbox family app with my account as the organizer, we share the same last name, and use the same Xbox, and its a child's account. Its obvious to anyone who looks at the situation that I'm just trying to get my kid back on the Xbox without losing all their saved games but I cant get a person from Microsoft to look at it. They say their employees are unable to help even if they did look at it. WE ALL KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE. Password recovery has been around since computers, its not new and with a child's account linked to an adults account you would think it would be super simple but Microsoft refuses to help at all. You cant even talk to a person.

    Same issue.

    Xbox needed password for my kid's account. Typed it in, but it said it was incorrect.

    Tried to reset - it then gave option to say did they use xbox, I ticked yes, but it wanted the Gamertag. I put it in and it said it wasn't valid!

    No way to reset password, so will have to recreate a new account.

    No mechanism to reset password on behalf of a kid?!

    Microsoft are one of the biggest companies in the world and yet stuff like this is farcical.

    I found a solution that worked for me, I didn't write it down as it happened but here are the steps I used.

    Login to the child’s account on a PC using their PIN.

    On a browser go to https://account.microsoft.com > Sign In and sign into the child account with the PIN

    If this is the first time you’ve signed into this account in this way, you should get a prompt to add a backup email address for account recovery. If not navigate to Security and add an email address to receive a code.

    After adding a parent email address, navigate to Security > Change Password > Forgot your password?

    Microsoft emailed a code to the backup email address that allowed me to create a new password for my child’s account.
