How can I reset the password to my child's account?

I can not believe this has been going on for years. How the **** has Microsoft not allowed parents to manage their kid accounts. THIS IS INSAINE!!! i should be able to rest my child's password at will. this is BS. Stop being little B*tches and stand up for parents.....

The only thing my children use their Microsoft accounts for is to create a family account on their computers and get to use Office and OneDrive to sync everything between their mother's house and my house. These accounts are tied to Gmail accounts that my daughter doesn't know exist and is tied to my son's cell phone.

Every few years, I have to search for a post-it note until i accept the fact that i lost it, go through the nightmarish process of resetting their Gmail account, then attempting to access their Microsoft account, writing all the information down on a post-it note, and sticking it in my desk.... just to be lost by the time someone gets a new device or needs the actual password for something.

As a PARENT account, i should have access similar to Azure AD management and have access to specific features at all times such as:

1. reset an account or create a temporary/permanent password
2. manage password change restrictions
3. disable/enable devices
4. lock a specific user out of certain or all devices for specific or full time periods
5. lock a user from accessing specific programs, controls, and folder access
6. wipe a lost or stolen device
7. collect basic usage statistics

This is the entire purpose of parent and family account management. Instead, i can only set their profile picture, set basic demographic information, age restrictions, and blanket restrict use of unmanaged third party software. which is basically useless.

Let's be blunt: the ongoing nightmare of trying to recover Microsoft accounts created for our children's Minecraft access is beyond ridiculous. It's a clear demonstration of negligence on Microsoft's part that this issue, as evidenced by a thread stretching back over TWO YEARS, remains unresolved.

We are not talking about compromised primary email accounts here. These are often bare-bones accounts set up solely to enable a child's access to Minecraft or to add friends. Expecting parents to recall specific email subjects from Microsoft or Minecraft, or even potential spam, for accounts that weren't intended for regular email use is utterly absurd. The current account recovery form is fundamentally flawed for this common scenario.

Frankly, Microsoft's inaction on this is insulting to parents. We've spent money on your products, and yet we're met with an archaic and useless recovery system when a simple issue arises. It's not like there isn't a clear solution! Google has already demonstrated a user-friendly approach with their Parent Control app, allowing direct password resets. Why is Microsoft, a tech giant with vast resources, failing so spectacularly in this basic parental control functionality?

The endless loops with support, the canned responses, and the feeling of being completely ignored are infuriating. We are not just numbers; we are paying customers who are being actively inconvenienced by a system that is clearly not fit for purpose.

It's time for Microsoft to stop dragging its feet and acknowledge the significant pain point they have created for parents. We demand a real solution, and we demand it now. This isn't a minor inconvenience; it's preventing our children from accessing a product we've paid for and causing unnecessary stress and frustration.

What are we going to do about this? Simply venting isn't enough. We need to explore ways to escalate this beyond forum posts and ineffective support channels. I urge anyone with ideas on how to collectively and forcefully bring this to Microsoft's attention – be it through social media campaigns, direct complaints to consumer protection agencies, or any other means – to speak up.

Same problem. My kids ca't access his Microsoft account on his PlayStation can can't unlink account as he doesn't know ow his Microsoft password!
I am admin on my company 365 and can change a colleagues password in one click. But not for my own child.

Why hasn't this been sorted yet Microsoft?

This is absolutely devastating for the children who cannot play in their minecraft worlds after losing their password. Same exact issue as original poster, I have my son on my family account but cannot do anything to get him back into his account except make a new account. Please fix!
