How can I reset the password to my child's account?

My children are unable to log into their accounts, and their accounts are linked with with mine in Family Safety. I am able to input all required information to identify their account in the account verification form, but they have not sent emails from their account. Every time I complete an account verification form, it tells me I haven't provided enough information. How can I provide more if they have never sent an email? It is VERY frustrating that as their mother, I am not able to help them reset their password and now their account and personal information is not within my control. Microsoft needs to fix this issue, I have read dozens of posts from frustrated parents about this.

    What i ended up doing was re created my kids emails as close as I could get away with. Making sure this time to record the password safely in a password locker/manager, i set up two factor authentication and keypasses to my Android phone so I have 3 steps of safety and backup. While I had my kids accounts logged in I also made sure to have backup accounts set to my account and linked everything to family safety.

    I also raised a formal feedback complaint that this process needs to be looked at and changed for recovery of children accounts not that it'll actually be looked at.

    This doesn't make sense. You said i logged into my childs account. THIS WHOLE THREAD is about how we can't get into our childs account! How can we change anything IN their account if we can even GET IN!

    I just don't understand how there is no customer service or tech support at Microsoft. It makes no sense. Just these forums, that more often then not, really don't help. It truly is ludicrous.

    Hi,

    I think this is great way going forward but it's the loss of the game that you already have linked to your Microsoft account. Then if this is hooked up to your playstation (as ours is). There is no way of unlinking the profile without signing in. My son can't currently play on his account which is surely no ideal for Microsoft either?

    It is totally not fit for purpose.

    As as said time and time again on here. As an admin of a company I can reset my colleagues passwords but I can't for my son who is a minor.

    I am hoping bye keeping this thread open Microsoft may come to their senses and fix this issue.

    It's possible this has been said, you'll forgive me for not going through 65 other comments.

    As insane as this is, I've found a workaround. Set up your child's account using a Gmail address which is connected to your own via Family Link. This way, even if everyone forgets everything, you can reset the Gmail account through Google's *gasp * allowing the parent to reset their kids' passwords. Then you can have Microsoft e-mail the password reset to Gmail.
