Stop the Family Feature Pop Up

Every time I turn on my computer, the "sign in Microsoft Family Features" pops up. I have tried:

  • Removing myself from family group per https://account.microsoft.com/family/home (already listed as an adult there)
  • Checking start up options (doesn't show up)
  • Looking at uninstalling Microsoft Family Features (doesn't show up)
  • Deleting the Microsoft Family Feature folder
  • Telling my firewall not to let it through

Every time I did one of these steps, I turned off and back on my computer, and still each time it persisted. Make it stop!!!

    I understand that you have an issue stopping the Microsoft Family features pop-up when turning on the computer. Let’s work together in finding the best resolution to this issue.

    To stop the Microsoft Family Features pop-up from appearing every time you turn on your computer, you can try the following steps:

     

    • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type "netplwiz" and press Enter.
    • In the User Accounts window, select your account and uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
    • Click Apply and enter your password if prompted.
    • Restart your computer and check if the pop-up still appears.

     

    If the above steps do not work, you can try disabling the Microsoft Family Features service by following these steps:

     

    • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type "services.msc" and press Enter.
    • In the Services window, scroll down and locate the "Microsoft Family Features" service.
    • Right-click on the service and select Properties.
    • Change the Startup type to "Disabled" and click Apply.
    • Restart your computer and check if the pop-up still appears.

    Hello Jason Guer,

    I have followed your above steps : Wkey+R then services.msc then Services window then, after scrolling down, there is no "Microsoft Family Features" listed.

    I am using Windows 11 Home, version "23H2" installed on 22 November 2023 and updated today 14 November 2024.

    do you have a further suggestion to make that may work to stop the Microsoft Family features pop-up when turning on the computer from appearing?

    What worked for me and some others was directions from a Norwegian forum-post from 2015 of all things. 

    Solution was to:

    • Press windows key+r and type taskschd.msc
    • In the left you'll see a directory, expand it and look for Microsoft\Windows\Shell folder in the library
    • Disable the tasks belonging to Family Safety, for me there were two, "FamilySafetyMonitor" and "FamilySafetyRefreshTask".

    Edit: worked for Win10. Have not tried on Win11, so unsure if the same settings are there.

    Help with Microsoft Family Features Hi Microsoft Team, I hope you're having a good day! I need some help with the Microsoft Family Features because it’s really bothering me while I’m trying to study. I tried to turn it off like it says in the instructions just like the comment you gave to La Joan and the reply. but it didn’t work. I also can’t find where to change the settings. And for the firewall part I don’t know how to fix that. Can you please tell me how to let the Family Features work? Or maybe give me other ideas!

    Thanks. Worked well on Windows 11, but it takes a little searching to find it. Your paths are correct. Good riddance to pop up box.

    I found the following reply from Glenn Joakim worked well with Windows 11. You have to search a little, not a lot, to find the paths.
