3/25 It's back!
I'm not sure if it works on every document, but it worked on one of mine!
(Edit on 4/26) It works on some documents but not on others... Does anyone else have the same problem?

Someone in the comment section said "The latest word, as of today, is "The latest update in the bug is that there are still some approvals that the team is waiting on. The Word team is treating this as a high-priority incident and is working to have this restored as soon as possible.". So anyone wondering for any updates, there it is...
Thank you!
(I will try my best to look for any updates given in this comment section)

why my similarity checker is not working?
Thanks for the info. I posted a message on Feedback Portal.
As a former MVP, I can tell you with certainty that the Microsoft people -- at least the ones who can make decisions about what to work on -- do not read anything on this forum unless it's specifically brought to their attention. There are two ways to do that: use the File > Feedback > Send a Frown function in Word, and post on the Feedback Portal.
Let's hope the Microsoft people are reading these so they can fix it right.
The Similarity checker appeared in my Word version 2402 before doing an update, indicating that the fix was on Microsoft's servers and not in the client software.
In both 2402 and 2403, I fed it the text of Lincoln' Gettysburg Address. It picked out three sentences from the middle of the speech and claimed that "32% of your text is similar to online sources". The famous "four score and seven years ago" was left untouched, as was "of the people, by the people, for the people". Fail.
