Documents showing in recent when not opened

I have noticed that every time I open file explorer, the recent list shows a random 10 documents which are stored on onedrive that I haven't accessed (on this or any other device). I am the only one with access to the device and the onedrive folder.

    Update Feb 2, 2024. Same problem for me today. Totally freaked out and lost 4 hours of productive time as thought someone was accessing my files.
    Spent 90 mins with MS Support chat which was useless. Told me to disable show recent files in quick access. Totally missed the point and ignored root cause. Zero care factor.
    Very thankful for Markz&, though I unticked "show files from Office.com" If I hadn't found this thread I would be incurring $ for external IT support to ensure my laptop was not being remotely accessed.
    Thank you MS community and Microsoft do better!

    Hi Rebecca,

    I do not think its just "compare and sync between your computer and the cloud storage." As that function does not view the files, and that function has been around for number of years.
    Could it be that MS, maybe using a AI to crawl through the files for relevant information which it can use to help with "Recommended files", or worse still to train it AI models. I know, this sound "conspiracy theory" and probably not a good ideal to talk about it on the MS platform!!! :0
    I am fan of MS and AI, so not trying to stir, but would be nice to get some better information on this.

    Hi, you are suggesting to uncheck "Show recently used files in Quick access", however you are not addressing the concern as to why these files have new modified dates ie. I have not accessed those files for ages yet they are showing being modified recently. This is really concerning, is any unauthorised user accessing our one drive files?
