I want to sue Microsoft -- OneDrive has hijacked all my local files and there's no way to retreive it!!!!

Microsoft is using deceptive tactics to hold our content hostage. I wasn't given any intimation on how OneDrive would without my permission take hold of my folders and content and not release it back to me unless I took their subscription account to access them. Even though I have paid for a yearly subscription, I still am not able to restore back all my content to my local storage. Though the sum of amount they've received isn't much, the value of my content is too high for me. I do not want them on OneDrive, I want them locally on my computer and for me to access, store, or transfer per my discretion.

When they apply this policy at a systemic level where all Windows users are subjected to it, suddenly the under $20 annual fee obviously becomes a much greater sum. It is something that must be attacked and resented publicly. A class action law suit is necessary when companies begin to act so callously.

    Why can't you sync the account to your desktop? Once it syncs, you can disable the "back up" feature.

    I have had the exact same thing happen. Although when I had my new computer built and Windows 11 installed, I told them I did not want the "365" subscription, just have Word and Excel added. I very pointedly told them I wanted nothing to do with any type of subscription. I don't know if they knew about OneDrive or not.

    Last January, because each time I wanted to delete one photo or just one document from a file, the entire file would be deleted. I researched and found out OneDrive was causing this, so I uninstalled it.

    Just two days ago I went to work with some photos and all my photos, documents, etc. had been hijacked by OneDrive. I searched for hours for a fix. Many places indicated a link needed to be undone from OneDrive. None of the fixes have worked.

    Luckily I have most things on flash drives. But still OneDrive hijacked everything so thoroughly that my system will not even let me create a new file and wirk from the C drive. There was no information given to me about this from my PC guy or an email from Microsoft or OneDrive at all.

    I'm totally in on suing Microsoft to make this hidden rip off fixed.

    I agree. My dTa was hijacked when an automatic update happened. My One Drive backup permissions had been turned off and somehow Microsoft changed the settings and did a backup which also removed all my documents, pictures, and the desktop from the “c” drive. I am technically savy and have not been able to reverse this. Sooo frustrated.

    You need to make sure everything is synced to the computer then go into OneDrive settings and disable backup - then move the files back to the default locations.
