I want to sue Microsoft -- OneDrive has hijacked all my local files and there's no way to retreive it!!!!

Microsoft is using deceptive tactics to hold our content hostage. I wasn't given any intimation on how OneDrive would without my permission take hold of my folders and content and not release it back to me unless I took their subscription account to access them. Even though I have paid for a yearly subscription, I still am not able to restore back all my content to my local storage. Though the sum of amount they've received isn't much, the value of my content is too high for me. I do not want them on OneDrive, I want them locally on my computer and for me to access, store, or transfer per my discretion.

When they apply this policy at a systemic level where all Windows users are subjected to it, suddenly the under $20 annual fee obviously becomes a much greater sum. It is something that must be attacked and resented publicly. A class action law suit is necessary when companies begin to act so callously.

Remember when Micro hard as nails would not let Apple use Office? Apple must have paid dearly for it. Now that you can no longer separate Office from 365, Mac's cloud must be in hog heaven. (Why hogs?)

Is Tor the answer? I don't know but would like to know

All I can think to say is Thank You but I will say more.

A very long time ago my son called me about a new, amazing, selective, email, gmail.com. You couldn't just sign up, you had to be invited. Talk about a Ponzi scheme.

I joined. I left about three months later. Something sketchy was going on. I was being targeted with ads. Whatever I searched for I now received ads for them.

The only thing I had done that was new was join gmail. At the time I was a youngish aging hippie and trusted no one or entity. Google fit the entity profile so I bailed. Or so I thought.

The internet was wired to the wall so they could follow me wherever I went. I continue to detest them.

Microsoft uses the Google AI. I can't do this but a friend of mine can. Typing at the speed of a jet he traced Micro's AI to Google.

I Feel So Safe. Good luck to us all.

I'm a real person and I have empathy... I also think Microsoft does a lot of stupid things - like enabling syncing documents and desktop to OneDrive so that when users click though dialogs without really paying attention, things get messed up. But fixing this problem isn't that difficult - annoying and unnecessary, yes. Impossible to fix, no.

I've helped a number of clients get the files back like they used to be... also had a number of clients who were able to recover all files because they had documents in OneDrive. (My preference is "I'll choose where to save the files" - but also have a separate data drive so I didn't lose files when I needed to reset windows. )

But I also have experience with mac and know it's not necessarily the solution for a lot of users. It throws everything in iCloud - so be prepared to pay for iCloud+. Depending on what you do on the computer, you may find it is worse than Windows.

"If you think macs will solve all your problems... LOL. I have a mac... I love my mac... but I need windows to get a lot of work done. And Apple is just as pushy with iCloud as Microsoft is with OneDrive."

Well I suppose we peasants should be grateful for whatever Microsoft allows us.

Diane, I observe that you show no concern whatever for those posting their problems here. Got empathy?

    Are you maybe an AI?
