How to exclude folders with pics appearing in the photo gallery

How do I exclude folders from appearing in the Photo Gallery of onedrive Android?

The photo gallery of onedrive Android is showing all photos in my onedrive. I believe the Photo Gallery should limit to only the photos in the Pictures folder, same as the online version, but this is not what is happening.

This means it is showing a lot unwanted pics by default in the photo gallery, such as wallpapers, documents pics or even private medical photos that should never appear in the default photo gallery.

Yes, there is a filter in the Photo Gallery to only show "Pictures folders", and this works. However the filter is not sticky, this means every time I open the app it reverts back to show everything, so if I have people around when I open the Photo Gallery, I never know what private photos are going to show up.

I have tried using the ".nomedia" file to exclude folders, but no luck.

    I just encountered the same problem, but in a worse way:

    I am involved in astrophotography, so I have folders with hundreds of images of the same subject taken sequentially at night and also many calibration images (which at a glance look just black or gray). Hundreds of images that, after calibration and processing, become one astronomical image.

    I have started backing up even my precious original folder on OneDrive, but this way the Photo Gallery becomes useless, until I can choose the folders that feed the Photo Gallery.

    All the photos on my phone are mixed with hundreds of images not to look at, but to work with.

    I think I will have to switch to some other oncloud storage.

    Add me too. Onedrive photos includes .jpg's from my desktop music folders, which are album covers. Ugh, what a pain!

    Any solution?

    Microsoft, we should be able exclude folders being uploaded to onedrive photos.

    I have the same problem. It is very strange that photos from work folders appear even in memories. Icons, thumbnails, web projects images, etc. There should only be camera roll photos. It makes perfect sense, which is why I'm surprised that no one at Microsoft has figured it out. None of them use it?

    None of them care. They're probably working on the next annoying thing that will replace OneDrive that they'll force us to use in 3 years.

    OK, I agree with all of the posters that choosing which folders to index is the right solution. Until then, select the filter icon, under the for you section if you have not turned this off, and then select the pictures folder option. This shows me only items in my pictures folder. Yes all of the other folders are still indexed and a huge pain but at least I can actually find photos now.
