    Update:

    • After removing the Updater files, if you have OneDrive as a Login Item, it will fail to start.
    • The check for the Updater files is done when it is launched, offline or online
    • You must always start OneDrive with the Updater files included. After OneDrive starts, add them back then go online. It won't perform the check and will run.
    • If you want OneDrive as a Login Item, you have to ensure you are offline when your system boots up. In most times, this is uncommon and inconvenient.
    • I've chosen to manually start OneDrive in case I'm online, in which case I go offline until after it has started.
    • For convenience...move the Updater files, instead of deleting them. I moved mine to Documents/OneDrive. This ways if it does fail, these files can be copied back into the OneDrive.app Contents folder.

    Hey everyone - I got this to work! Following Robert's advice, but there's a step that you must make in order to get it to work.

    1. Download 23.054.0313.0003 stand alone
    2. After installing, go offline
    3. Run OneDrive and allow the initial setup screen to appear (it won't go past this initial step of entering your email account since you're offline) Remain offline.
    4. While the screen is still displayed (you'll see a problem message and a disable cloud icon shown at the top), select OneDrive.app and select Show Package Contents
    5. Remove the files Robert listed - anything with "updater".
    6. Now go online so you can connect. After already entering your email address - enter your account password. (Probably don't even need to enter your account email - just load the initial screen message and delete updater files while offline)
    7. Continue through the setup process and voila!

    Logic: the application likely checks for the updater files when it is launched. If they are deleted before running the application, it will fail. If they are removed after it is running, it doesn't check for these files and will remain running.

    I'm now successfully up and running and syncing files with 23.054. Now that the updater files had been removed. Hiopefully it will remain at this version. I've also disabled the stand-alone MS updater.

    Hi,

    I have experienced the same problem (noticed after 14 days :-)), Catalina 10.15.7, was a little bit unhappy how Microsoft handle the situation, but in this (or on another forum) I found a link to https://hansbrender.com/all-onedrive-versions/#tabmac onedrive versions ... I know it is not a securite site (not MS), but I give it a try, and installed the latest preview version, at this time it was 23.086.0423.0001 from 04/25/23 ... and it works! ... so seems there si finally a solution. Hope this will help others.

    Hi, I also have the same problem. My problem was solved by installing the old version (version 23.054.0313.0003; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/onedrive-release-notes-845dcf18-f921-435e-bf28-4e24b95e5fc0#OSVersion=Mac) and turning off Microsoft autoupdate to prevent updates to the latest version.

    I have automatic updates disabled (launched via MS Word or directly via "Microsoft AutoUpdate.app") but this seems to work only for MS Office and Teams products but not for OneDrive. Where did you find the option to disable the automatic update for OneDrive?

    Same here. Version 23061.0319.0003 is the version I cannot get to launch. I've downloaded from the Apple Store and from MS site - it's the same useless version.

    Most software companies will provide access to older software versions, at least 4-5 iterations, just in case there's a such as this. However, I'm unable to locate any older version(s), not even one. Since I do pay for the yearly 365 subscription, this is very frustrating. I typically use OneDrive for one of my backup methods. I've uninstalled OneDrive and have removed the OneDrive folder from my MacBook. I'm now using browser-access only now.
