Junk Emails Suddenly going to Inbox Feb 2023

Hi, I had my hotmail account for over 20 years and I never had an issue like this. As of this morning at 4am ALL of my junk emails are going to my inbox. No settings have been amended.

Since I've had this account for many years every 5 minutes I receive a junk in my inbox. Ive searched for a solution online but all I can see is for outlook and not outlook/hotmail 365. I've tried everything at this point, from rules to flagging wit no help. Has anyone experienced the same? Microsoft doesnt seem to have a customer service team to help?

Many thanks

I have outlook on my PC and like #steviek junk emails via my iPad “Mail” app get binned automatically but not on my PC outlook.

Interestingly I was on holiday for 10 days and only took my iPad ie used “Mail” to download emails. On return home I expected to see a load of the spam emails on opening Outlook.

To my surprise I didn’t have one spam email.

It is now 2 days later and the same sourced junk emails have started to appear again. Ie the spam only started to arrive when I opened Outlook. To me this looks like hidden code embedded in the Outlook app. Which then generates a signal to the junk server so junk emails are sent. And at the same time allows it to by-pass the junk settings.

I have tried repairing and restoring Outlook but it makes no difference. For me it affects one of my non-MS email accounts, my main account, which I have used for 20+ years

    Come on MS help us.

... I have had some of my recurring trusted senders e-mails show up in the junk mail folder. Be careful of what you block!!!

I also discovered an issue with my Safe Senders list.

Like the original poster Caroline Vilar who started this topic on 20-Feb-2023, none of the spam emails sent to my MS Outlook email address around this date were being directed to the Junk Email folder, and I had over a dozen spam emails landing in my Inbox every day.

According to the update in the 20-Feb-2023 BleepingComputer article Microsoft Outlook Flooded With Spam Due to Broken Email Filters Microsoft claimed that their spam filters were fixed on 21-Feb-2023. The amount of spam ending up in my own Outlook Inbox decreased significantly after 21-Feb-2023 but there was still too much spam getting past Microsoft's filters in the following weeks. I logged in to the Outlook.com webmail app and checked the header details of some of the spam messages that were landing in my Inbox (i.e., I logged into the Outlook.com web mail at https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/, right-clicked on each spam message and chose View | View Message Source from the context menu), and was surprised to discover that most of my remaining spam was actually spoofing info @ e.shoppersdrugmart.ca (a legitimate email address that is used by Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada for sending weekly e-flyers and promotional emails) that was in my Safe Senders list. For example, here's the header information for one of these spam messages about an expiring McAfee subscription that was spoofing Shoppers Drug Mart's email address:

Subject: Your Antivirus protection could be expired
    From: Mcafee, Mcafee <**info @ e.shoppersdrugmart.ca**>
    To: <*my Outlook email address*>

Once I removed info @ e.shoppersdrugmart.ca (and all the other "safe" email addresses) from my Safe Senders list [Settings (gear icon) | View All Outlook Settings | Mail | Junk Email | Safe Senders List] most of the spam that was ending up in my Inbox was correctly routed to the Junk folder. After purging my Safe Senders list I did have a few legitimate emails from Shoppers Drug Mart that ended up in my Junk folder but I marked those legitimate emails as Not Junk, and I'm now back to seeing about one spam email per week that sneaks past Microsoft's spam filters.

If you continue to see spam email arrive in your Outlook Inbox make sure that you log in to Outlook.com, select the spam message and choose "Spam" or "Phishing" (if the spam email is asking you to reply and provide personal information) from the toolbar. This will help to train Microsoft's spam filters to correctly recognize spam emails in the future and automatically move them to the Junk folder. The Microsoft support article Block Senders or Mark Email as Junk in Outlook.com has other suggestions on how to reduce the amount of unwanted spam that is still landing in your Inbox.

Same issue here. Have had my account for 20 years and it has always been set to allow only emails from contacts and safe list to my inbox. Now EVERY junk email is going to Inbox and nothing is going to Junk. Can't even find the old customization section that lets you pick the level of spam filtering. Nothing in the menus. Nothing in the junk mail settings. Nothing online that's correct for the new updated menus. If they don't fix this quickly, I may finally make the switch to gmail....

I had this same situation a few months ago. Back then I was told I had surpassed the amount of email addresses I could block. So, I went in and deleted some blocked emails addresses and that appeared to do the trick . However, today February 20, 2023, the same thing is happening. A glitch in the Matrix I suppose.
