Split from this thread.

Same issue in our office. All users with O365. It started over this past weekend (07/09/2022). Only Excel files when doing a Save As, Browse. Some users experience it with File Open.

All other applications work without issue. Nothing in event viewer shows any problems.

Can confirm this is still broken for us on 2209 (Build 15629.20208).

Either disabling Web Client service or using outbound firewall rule to block HTTP to our file server both work as workarounds.

    Hi Alison,

Thank you for the work around. Do you have any documentation that shows which MS services rely on the Web Client service that you suggest disabling? I am worried that we might fix one problem but create others.

    Thanks!

This also seems to be affecting retail builds the same way. We just rolled out updates to 2206 15330.20230 and the problem exists there as well. The difference here is that I cannot seem to find a way to roll back the update or install to an older version. I have tried some of the suggestions with building an XML configuration file with the build I want to download, but it has not worked. It started up the day I left town on vacation (07/12/2022). I got off the plane and had at least a half dozen messages with people having this message pop up. I would love a solution to get an older version installed. Sadly, there is no rollback feature for Office Updates via the retail channel.

I can confirm that if I map to a drive letter, the issue completely disappears. It is only for anything that is hitting a UNC path.

The latest release of the Monthly Enterprise Channel, Build 2205, Version 15225.20356 does not have this problem. In our experience is the Current Channel, Build 2206, Version 15330.20246 and 15330.20230 that have the issue.

Update - we have learned that Excel Release:

Version 2206 (Build 15330.20230) Has the issue with DFS

    Excel Release:

    Version 2108 (Build 14326.21018)

Works without issue in the DFS environment.
