How to turn off the reviewing, editing, and view feature?

Since the reviewing, editing, and viewing feature I cannot copy and paste from a read only document. I have to gain access to even copy and paste. My job requires me to copy and paste from upwards of 10 documents. Since word won't let me copy and paste from a read-only or viewing document I have to check them out of our SVN every time. Does anyone know how to turn this feature off and go back to the original word?

Current Channel dropped today. The Viewing Button has disappeared! But they don't mention in the the Update notes. BUT they say:We often roll out features (and sometimes even fixes) to Current over a period of time. If you don’t see something described below right away, you can expect it soon.

Can anyone confirm that the Editing/Viewing button has disappeared?

No Paul. In the past you always were able to type into (or programmatically update) a read-only document, if it was not protected. You could not save it though.

If it is a document I don't want others to change I lock it read only. Are you saying you have a way around this?

    I agree!

But using the Preview channel our code can now manipulate a document which has been opened Read-Only (by the code). This is despite the fact that if we leave it open on the screen the Viewing button activates (with the message), and the document cannot be updated. We however, never leave the document open - we close it without saving. So it's fixed for us.

Now we have to wait to see if the Current Channel update, probably next Tuesday, fixes it as well.

It's not like we would know based on the release notes...a little more detail would be useful Microsoft. Is this our lump of coal from Santa this year?
