Excel Stocks not working in Office 365 after installing macOS Ventura v13.0

**Parameters:**Hardware: Mac mini 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i3
Software: Office 365 (v16.66.1)
OS: macOS Ventura (v13.0)
Connected Experiences: All On
Auto Update: Have always been On for both Office 365 and macOS

Additional: Nothing new has been installed on the system for over a year (other than SW updates)

TimeLine:

Two days ago: Microsoft Auto Update hung for hours

- Reinstalled MS Auto Update and was able to update MS apps
- Excel Stocks working fine yesterday

This morning: Received error message: "COULDN'T REFRESH DATA TYPES We need to fix your account. Select Microsoft Excel from the top menu > Sign Out. Then sign back in with the account associated with a subscription."

Steps Taken:
Signed out of Office 365; signed back in. No change, and "Stocks" is missing.
Hard Reboot: No change, and "Stocks" is missing.
Scoured the forums online...pretty much tried everything that I could find...

Removed Office 365 Apps, reinstalled, rebooted, etc., signed in again, verified Connected Experiences all are on, and "Stocks" shows up as a menu item: however, when clicking on it, the same error message appears ('COULDN'T REFRESH DATA...").
Removed Office 365 another two times, reinstalled, rebooted, verified Connected Experiences, etc. etc. and no change.
Nothing has changed with my Office 365 subscription (still active, valid, no additional users, etc.).

Thoughts/Questions:

Is this a problem with the latest version of Office 365 (v16.66.1)?

- If so, is there a way to roll back to an earlier version that we know works (I have researched and not been able to find out how to do this.

Is this a problem with the latest version of macOS (Ventura v13.0)?

- If so, is there a way to roll back to a previous version of macOS?

If this isn't the right forum to solve this issue, can someone point me to where I can get assistance; I'm happy to pay a fee, as I'm over four hours of spinning my wheels with everything I've tried.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

I just received this from Microsoft:

Thank you for sending Microsoft feedback. Your input is valuable to us and helps improve our products.

Your feedback directly resulted in improvements to Office and we believe your issue has been addressed in the latest version of Office 365. Thank you! To get the latest update, follow the steps here.

For your reference, you submitted the following feedback on November 3, 2022:  MacOS Ventura 13.0 users have to downgrade to Version 16.65 because all newer versions up to beta 16.68 do not support stock quotes anymore! OK. your first formula was wrong because it did not have the requirement for what you want displayed after the date part. Those let you select periods (day or week etc.), whether you want a header and then what prices you want such as close prices and volume.

I do understand your issue since I worked through it with Microsoft support and had all the initial issues with it that happened after support chats. In the end, I got it all running.

Yes, I use Ventura and yes I use 16.65.

Here are the steps I used and wrote earlier in the thread that were successful. Several others utilized this procedure and they were successful. The first chat helps with Microsoft did not have you turn off office updates first which is critical. The first time I had it the problem was solved but the next day it did not work. What happened? Autoupdate did its job and converted it back to Excel 16.66.1.

One critical question (and the problem happened to me using 16.65) is when you start typing the formula, =STOCKHISTORY does the suggested rest of the formula help appear describing your choices or options as you fill in the formula? If not, one of a couple of things is happening. The first is that the copy of 16.65 is corrupted probably because you did not do the steps exactly as written or not all of them. Installing 16.65 is not enough, you have to reset the customizations. The second thing is that STOCKHISTORY only is offered in Excel 365. If you are using any version but 365 the dynamic array functions which STOCKHISTORY is are not offered.

    1. Turn off auto-updates in office.
    2. Move the Excel file from Applications to Trash.
    3. Download and install 16.65 with this link.

    https://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/C1297A47-86C4-4C1F-97FA-950631F94777/MacAutoupdate/Microsoft\_Excel\_16.65.22091101\_Updater.pkg

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Go to Preferences - Ribbon and Toolbar and at bottom you see three dots in a circle. Click on that and choose reset all customizations.

Following this exactly as shown should help you...... let me know.

    Good Luck

    Hi everyone,

It is indeed a rabbit hole Microsoft has us all down these days :) However, I finally got STOCKS working, and I noticed something not mentioned in these threads, that might be of help to others having problems.

First: Let me confirm what ended up working for me, as it has for others in this thread: I installed the older Excel 16.65 and then ran the License Removal Tool. This was essential to get things to work, signing out and in again was not enough.

Second: Here's the thing that may be of interest to others having problems, as there may be two issues muddling things for some people! Because after running the tool and then launching Excel, I saw the dialog in the screenshot below for the first time:

    Image

I had never seen this until I ran the License Removal Tool, and here is the key to why the tool was needed. It all has to do with how I (and probably many people) bought Office.

I first bought a license for Office Home & Business 2021 Mac so I could "graduate" from Apple Numbers to Excel, because I assumed Excel would have more advanced stocks and financial tools. Turns out Numbers was actually very close to Excel in this regard, and heaps easier to use, but I digress :)

But, as it turned out, I needed to buy a separate Microsoft 365 subscription to even use the stock-lookups and other tools. I mean, come on Microsoft! Well, whatever — I should have done my homework I suppose :)

But I bet many people will have bought Office Home and Business, thinking you could, oh I don't know, use it for business-stuff like stocks, and then found out they needed an extra subscription, bought that, and then found out it still did not work because of the current bug. So if you're in this situation, download Excel 16.65, run the License Tool, and then choose Microsoft 365 (Recommended) in the dialog seen above.

Because, I am correct that the 365 subscription is still needed, in order to use the Stocks function, right? It's getting confusing and I dare not mess more with it, so if anyone can confirm this is needed, I would be grateful.

Anyways, I hope this helps someone, and may I just say what a wonderful and supportive community I found here! You people are amazingly helpful and friendly. Special shoutout to to Jim Gordon for his incredible level of support here! How you get any other work done, I'll never know, but you're a fantastic ressource to have and I think I can say a huge Thank You from everyone here!

    Cheers,

    Thomas

Then let me repeat my post, because this is the action you should take:

    Hi

It's important for everyone affected to report this misbehavior to Microsoft. The more reports, the more likely someone will notice and add this to the bug database.

Use the Menu Bar and choose Help > Feedback > I Don't Like Something to file a report. Microsoft uses the squeaky wheel method of prioritizing bug fixes. The louder the squeak, the more likely the squeak is to get oil.

And, I will quote eXception handler who offered this verbiage to use in your submission:
