My cursor keeps turning white in Microsoft Word 2016 (I bought lifetime access), even without typing. I already tried changing the cursor settings so that it wouldn't disappear when typing, but that didn't do anything. After a few seconds the text selection cursor will turn white, and, if I hover over dark text, I can see the cursor outline. This has been happening in multiple documents, so not an isolated incident.
This started after a Microsoft update which forced me to log back into my Microsoft account to use Word about a week or two ago. I've tried everything I can find on the internet, but no luck yet. It's very hard to get work done if I can't see my cursor in Word, so what do I need to do to fix this issue so I can get back to work?

I have the same problem, but have been able to replicate and at least have a workaround fix, albeit not a complete fix.
In word, the insertion point cursor begins black, but if I move the cursor out of the window and then back to the Word window, the insertion point is now white.
The "fix" is to click outside of the Word window, and then click on the Word page again.
What appears to be happening is that moving the cursor out of the Word window without clicking is changing the cursor from an insertion point to a pointer. Because the focus window has not changed though, bringing the cursor back to the Word page triggers the change of cursor type, but no information about cursor colour, and so we get a white cursor. By changing the focus window and then coming back into Word and doing the change from pointer to insertion point in Word, we get that colour trigger, and our black cursor back
I have received information from the Microsoft Word product group, which has been liaising with the Windows team on this issue. Here's what I was told:
I got some information from the folks on the Windows side. First, they are asking if users can submit feedback with any repro steps and information such as a repro video. They can do this through Feedback Hub (Win + F). They mentioned there were some bugs they were investigating, but one doesn’t look to impact some of the Windows builds shared by users in the thread, and the other looks to only impact Edge.
Sorry, one more bit of information. They just informed me that a user needs to file the feedback under Input & Language > Mouse, as that will allow for the recording of a specific trace file.
So the bottom line is that feedback should be submitted through the Feedback Hub, filed under Input & Language | Mouse, with repro steps and video if possible. Windows and Word versions, of course, will be useful, along with any hardware specifics you think might be relevant.
My Feedback Hub just spins the loading wheel, so I can't even try this if I wanted to. It's great that they are looking into this, but it looks like I won't be able to give feedback on this. Hopefully everyone else in this thread report it. I am still having issues even after trying every single solution mentioned here. While what you mentioned is not a solution, it is definitely a step in the right direction for those who are able to report it, and I hope they do.
In the meantime, I will continue waiting for a full solution.
I had the exact same problem. I did just find a fix I believe. First go to "Mouse Settings" and then click the "Additional mouse Settings". Then go to the "Pointer Options" tab. There You should see a check box labeled "Hide Pointer While Typing" And uncheck it. After I did that I have not had an issue with it. Hope that helps
It's been unchecked this whole time and the problem has persisted.
This all is good, but this broke my netflix, is there any way to revert this code??
