Win 10 version 21H2 Build 19044.1706

Excel 2016 Version 2204 Build 15128.20224

This problem occurs randomly and with only a few cells being copied. The spreadsheet locks up and the only way out is Save>Close and open the book again. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to close Excel completely.

Sometimes the top ribbon completely greys out and I can't do anything.

This is becoming a significant problem.

Same issue here. Reboot is the only thing that fixes this. Something happens after the PC goes to sleep and wakes up. I'm on Windows 11 and after my PC has gone to sleep and woken up I start getting these weird clipboard/copy & paste issues intermittently. It never happens if the PC doesn't first go to sleep. The excel error is the latest of these and I suspect whatever is the root if this is at the root of the copy & paste, in general, just not working. That also includes sometimes even the ability to click the shutdown or reset icons on my PC. Not only that, Windows 11 hijacks your normal force shutdown by making you slide a window down to shutdown the PC if you hold the power button. If that freezes, and you are on a laptop, better have a pin handy.... I'm so frustrated by this, and frustrated that Microsoft is trying to be Apple. Have your own identity Microsoft, there as a reason I didn't go Apple.

Yes, I beg your pardon, you were right. I meant 2207 (I had the previous 2206 version, and once the software was updated, everything seems to be working properly).

I can hereby confirm that this glitch happens with the desktop version as well ;) The good news is that upgrading to the 2007 version seems to work and sorts this unpleasant issue out.

Since I created this thread on 18th May we have seen that this problem doesn't care what configuration you are running, or what operating system, or what version of Excel, or whether you use PowerShell, or whatever.

I am running Excel Pro 2016 standalone on a Win 10 PC. I have been running spreadsheet programs from all providers (Borland, Lotus, VisiCalc, IBM, . . .) since the early 70s so I think I have a bit of expertise and experience. Since Windows 3.11 I have never come across such an egregious problem as this.

Does anyone know how to escalate a problem in Microsoft??

It looks like this problem has been ongoing with other users.

I am running into this error message more frequently now when using Microsoft 365 Excel. This happens in Excel only. The frequency of this error message keeps increasing, I literally have to click all over the spreadsheet to correct the problem. I sometimes save and then click the esc key and it MIGHT work. I even release the cache from the Clipboard by using Win+V, to no result. I have tried keeping less application open for multitasking, but that still doesn't help. I am running Excel on Windows 11. Essentially, I try a combination of any of these or all combination before it slowly gets back to normal.

Does this happen with the desktop version? Anyone?... If I have to move on to that instead of Microsoft 365 Office, it would be worth the effort since I use Excel every day and this bug is becoming an annoyance.
