Hello All,

you might know that " Microsoft has blocked Macros from running through internet" do we have any permanent solution on this?

I have tried the below solution which doesn't work.

  1. Save the file to a local hard drive, network share, or cloud share like OneDrive.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer and go to the folder where you saved the file.
  3. Right-click the file and choose Properties from the context menu.
  4. At the bottom of the General tab, you should see a section for Security. Select the Unblock checkbox and select OK.

Also, tried to enable Macros through Macros settings through Trust center but didn't work?

is there any permanent solution on this?

Thanks,

AMit

Hi,

I think I found a solution to my problem.

The solution is to re-map the network drive to the fileserver name first and then adding that mapped directory to the trusted locations in excel.

Mapped Location:

\fileserver\networkdirectory and not \[192.xxx.xxx.xxx]\networkdirectory

Hope it helps someone out there.

Regards,

Ryno

    Hi Arpit,

For end users, you can refer to A potentially dangerous macro has been blocked (microsoft.com) to find more information about how to unblock the macros you trust.

And if you need to work with the administrators to unblock multiple files/locations in the organization, you can find more solutions in Macros from the internet are blocked by default in Office - Deploy Office | Microsoft Docs.

    Hope it helps.

For users still seeing the message below ....

.... please note that Microsoft added a revision to their Tech Community blog at Helping Users Stay Safe: Blocking Internet Macros by Default in Office today (08-Jul-2022) that states:

"Following user feedback, we have rolled back this change temporarily while we make some additional changes to enhance usability. This is a temporary change, and we are fully committed to making the default change for all users. Regardless of the default setting, customers can block internet macros through the Group Policy settings described in this article. We will provide additional details on timeline in the upcoming weeks."

Kudos to Susan Bradley for posting about Microsoft's decision to temporarily roll back this change in the Current Channel of MS Office in her AskWoody,.com article Dear Microsoft, Don’t Give Up On This Please!.

I should've clarified in my initial post that we had verified the server was a trusted site and the issue had not been resolved. & this issue was occurring for us only on one machine, anyone else accessing the file through the network drive had no issues with the file or Macro.

A full uninstall/reinstall ended up being the fix for our situation with this user/device.

    Hey Everyone,

I've been following this thread now for a couple days trying all of the troubleshooting steps provided thus far.

The user I'm assisting is also accessing the excel files through a shared company drive. I attempted adding the path to Trusted Locations but kept receiving errors, and adjusting settings in the Trust Center didn't alleviate the issue. I had also tried updating the Office apps and it still didn't alleviate the issue. I knew something was weird because I had no issues with the files during my own testing.

Today, I decided to do a complete uninstall/reinstall of Office just to be safe and to my surprise it alleviated the issue for us after a restart. We tested macros across multiple files and subfolders and everything was working as it should. Just wanted to share my experience in the off-chance it might help anyone else looking for answers.

    Thanks,

    Ken
