I have M365 Family and a domain name not on GoDaddy

Another couple of things:

I am a bit worried about this word 'aliases'.

Will I be able to get emails using a different client, e.g Thunderbird?

Also, it says I shouldn't have the same name for my account login as for the personalised email I want to set up. That's a bit of a gotcha as I chose the account name specially so it was the email I wanted, and I think it says you can't change the account name.

Each family account will need to visit their diamond and choose an account name. All previous aliases will continue to work.

Thanks for @EdRandall_TAC 's blog which nicely sets out the sequence of actions.

Questions about other family members:

• Does setting up the primary account create a mailbox for each family member? MS knows who's in the family after all.
• What do they have to do?
• Will they be losing emails during the transition, or just not be able to access them?

I could find out by experiment, but if you have done it already, I would appreciate knowing what to expect.

@TestMicrosoft365 - I'm in the trial period. I've successfully set up, removed, and again set up my domain name, a couple of times now. The domain name is registered and DNS configured with namecheap.

Okay, I'll try again and set the MX priority to 0. That's the only thing I did differently because I figured it shouldn't matter.

Well, we'll see.

The only question that remains unanswered is whether it's possible to set up a custom domain during the trial period. No one has confirmed or denied that yet.
