I have M365 Family and a domain name not on GoDaddy

As regards custom email / Microsoft account / email, the following scenario may be the only usable option according to what is stated in the documentation:

(because it is not possible to enter an email address without censoring it, the " @ " is replaced by " * " in the following text, thank you very much)

• for each Microsoft 365 Family member, first create a Microsoft account (for example) in the format name.account*outlook.com
• this account will be used to log in to all Microsoft 365 services
• for emailing purposes only on a custom domain, each member will be assigned an address in the name*nodaddy.domain format
• emails will arrive at this address and leave from this address
• all other activity is stored with the Microsoft account / name.account*outlook.com

It's a bit schizophrenic for the user, but it is clearly stated that it is not recommended to use your own email address for logging in (and also sharing) within the Microsoft365 Family subscription. Setting up a Microsoft account in the format of an email address on your own "nodaddy" domain (merry*nodaddy.domain) necessarily leads to even bigger problems when it is not at all clear to the user what is an email address and what is an MS account.

Aliases - another question on my test list.

If I understood correctly, there is probably not much to test here, because no aliases are possible. Each user in the Microsoft 365 Family program can have just one address on a custom domain, no aliases.

To make the terminology clear - by alias I mean the part of the address to the left before the @ sign.

(since it is not possible to enter any email address here without it being censored I will replace the @ sign with * in the following examples, hopefully it will work)

So for example my address is mail*nodaddy.domain (I will set this address) and besides this address I would like to set aliases "office", "home", "admin" and "bank", so that mail sent to office*nodaddy.domain, home*nodaddy.domain, admin*nodaddy.domain and bank*nodaddy.domain will be delivered to my mailbox with the primary address mail*nodaddy.domain

The same goes for multiple recipients (we can also call it a distribution list), so for the same example, mail sent to family*nodaddy.domain should be delivered to multiple addresses, for example joe*nodaddy.domain, marry*nodaddy.domain, james*nodaddy.domain which are the addresses of other members of the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

But I suppose this is not possible according to what I have officially read, or did someone manage to break this somehow ?

Yes, after setting the MX priority to 0 the activation of the custom domain was almost instantaneous. So I confirm the procedure is functional even during the test period. Afterwards I am able to use the custom domain name for receiving and sending. I consider the question whether it is possible to use a custom domain name during the trial period for Microsoft 365 Family to be solved (at least until Microsoft / GoDaddy notices and implement checks who is the domain name registrar).

Is it going to work to set up my 365 personalized email with the same email that I used to create my Microsoft Account?

If not, what can I do? I really don't want to change the email that everyone uses to contact me.

Mail setup for Thunderbird/IMAP is a separate question somewhat off-topic to this thread. But I completed it just now almost seamlessly by giving Thunderbird my @live.com email address. Microsoft multifactor authentication detected what I was trying to do and immediately emailed with prompts to set up an app password for this.
