UPDATE: CAN'T Fix? : Formula Bar Now at Bottom of Excel (for Android) Screen

Happy 2022!

A couple days ago, I opened a spreadsheet (that I update, daily), & discovered that the Formula Bar had moved to the bottom of my screen. It still does what it's supposed to, but this positioning makes life difficult in multiple ways (details below).

I can't find an update to the Excel app, or Android OS, that seems recent enough to be responsible, though the Excel screen did seem to become set, approx the same time, to match phone's day/night color schemes.

I can't find any mention, or images – online, on Microsoft.com, in tech pubs/blogs, or community forums – of this behavior, or of any way to move the Formula Bar.

Can anyone provide insight into what happened, or how to fix it?

NOTE : System + app versions follow screenshot, along with "difficulties caused" – mentioned above.

Many thanks for any solution(s?) &/or insights❗

UPDATE: This morning [22-May'22], I opened Excel, on my Android phone, & MS "asked" whether I've enjoyed the "Updated Feature: …Has your editing experience become easier having the Formula Bar at the bottom?" {see add'l att}

BINGO ❗ IT'S A FEATURE, NOT A BUG

[Does not explain why an MS rep would request info, trying to replicate the "Feature"]

PHONE : Samsung Galaxy S21 (5G)

OS : Android version 12

  : One UI version 4.0

  : Android security patch 1-December'21

EXCEL (for Android) : V 1.0.1 (16.0.14729.20146)

PROBLEMS

• Decades of Excel habits, using Formula Bar at top.

• Pop-ups, while typing (suggestions, option selection, etc.), display on top of toolbar, making click/select errors – that clear all content from formula/data entry field – inevitable.

• Enlarging the Formula Bar covers bottom (typically more important) rows of spreadsheet, + makes them trickier to access.

You should see the mess they have made with the latest version of windows office 365, in particular Access.

Nothing gets tested anymore to any great degree, just chuck out to the public and let them test it. :-(

I cannot believe the 'majority' of people asked for this after all thse years? :-(
Bit like one person complaining about a comedy show in an audience of several hundred, and they bow to that one persons closed views.

As I've posted before, I've spoken to Microsoft Business 365 Support about this and was told this was a deliberate change, not a glitch, so no-one is working on a "fix". I asked why the ridiculous change had been made and was told "some people had asked for it" I drew their attention to this thread and was told "a handful of people have complained to us. If enough people tell us they're unhappy then we may look at it again".

I said "at least give us the option to have the formula bar at top or bottom".

We all need to complain more directly to Msoft!!

Glad to hearI'm not alone in this mess! I hope the engineers are actually working on finding the issue and get us a fix! And fast!!

It is frankly unbelievable that Microsoft appear to have instigated this change without apparently consulting users. The change is extremely aggravating and should be changed back as soon as possible.

This issue relates to android operating systems (smart phones & tablets etc....) and not windows (laptops etc....), The computer system Excel is ok.

I don't agree. Because I used Excel on my Android phone for at least two years and the formula bar was always at the top. Then suddenly and on the same phone, the formula bar appeared and is now stuck on the bottom. And as far as I know, because I normally always have to agree to it, there was no OTA system update prior to this behaviour starting in Excel....
