MacOS: Microsoft Word not displaying pasted Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects

I'm running Word version 16.56 and Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects is not displaying at all either in old .docx files which contained them or when I try to paste it into new files it simply beachballs. FWIW I am running Excel version 16.54.

Is this a known bug?

I chose the 'Current channel (preview)' box and then checked the update automatically boxes and it automatically updated to the 16.57 version of Word. That solved the problem with the embedded excel table.

    It's great that you've found the problem - let's all hope you can the solution quickly. It is a pretty major bug.

    To be pedantic, the Paste Special option to paste as Microsoft Office Graphic Object does not exist. The option is paste as Microsoft Office Worksheet Object. And in any event this is the function that does not work.

    We understand your frustration this issue has brought; we know this is important to your work. We truly apologize for it.

    Currently, we do not have any solution, and I have also tested in beta version (i.e., 16.57), the issue persists. We request you submit the feedback from your Word app by clicking the Help menu and choose Give Feedback to send the feedback directly to Product Team.

    For now, the only workaround is to roll back to the earlier version 16.55.

    1. Move Word app (Finder>Applications folder) to Trash.
    2. Open any existing Office app such as Excel or PowerPoint, click Help > Check for Updates, uncheck Automatically keep Microsoft Apps up to date option to prevent Office apps from updating automatically.
    3. Go to the support article and download Word 16.55.

    Just a question to the Microsoft folks:

    The latest Office Update has a serious bug which is know for two weeks with no fix being available. The only remedy known so far is downgrading to the last released version (16.55) which does not expose the bug. As per your download page, that means installing an unsupported version ("Only the most recently released version listed below is supported.").

    Are you serious? If the current version has a serious bug impeding many of your customers, why don't you just pull back the current update until a fix has been found? What new features did 16.56 bring that justify this? I don't see anything that couldn't wait for another two weeks. So the only valid reason would be security issues. But if the current version fixes a major security issue, you wouldn't possibly recommend rolling back our installations to a vulnerable version, or would you?

    I am sorry, but you should either fix this ASAP or pull back 16.56 if you care for your customers.
