MacOS: Microsoft Word not displaying pasted Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects

I'm running Word version 16.56 and Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects is not displaying at all either in old .docx files which contained them or when I try to paste it into new files it simply beachballs. FWIW I am running Excel version 16.54.

Is this a known bug?

I chose the 'Current channel (preview)' box and then checked the update automatically boxes and it automatically updated to the 16.57 version of Word. That solved the problem with the embedded excel table.

    Hi Stephen,

    From your post, I understand you are running different versions of Word and Excel. May I confirm if you are running insider version (beta or Insider Current Channel (Preview)) or production version? To confirm, in Word, go to the Word menu and choose About Word.

    Besides, please try starting your mac in safe mode and check if Word shows the objects in existing documents. To know how to start mac in safe mode, see Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

    Hi

    Why would you run two different versions of Office applications at the same time? The software expects that the suite will all be at the same version level. Please install updates and get everything up to 16.56 and then try again.

    You seem to be reporting 2 related but separate issues.

    1. Even if the file is in .docx format it may be one of the earlier renderings. See whether the File menu contains a Convert Document listing & use that then close & reopen the file.
    2. Don't paste as a Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object... that's a deprecated object format which should not still be listed. See if you have success by either simply using Paste or use Paste Special as Microsoft Office Graphic Object (which essentially renders the same result).
