MacOS: Microsoft Word not displaying pasted Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects

I'm running Word version 16.56 and Microsoft Excel Worksheet Objects is not displaying at all either in old .docx files which contained them or when I try to paste it into new files it simply beachballs. FWIW I am running Excel version 16.54.
Is this a known bug?

I chose the 'Current channel (preview)' box and then checked the update automatically boxes and it automatically updated to the 16.57 version of Word. That solved the problem with the embedded excel table.

We received multiple reports of the issue, we tested on our end in the latest version i.e., 16.56 and can see the same behavior. Here, I would like to make a summary of the issue, so it is easier to find the information.
Issue Description:
Excel workbook inserted as object does not appear in Word documents, it happens with both existing and news docs.
Environment:
Word for mac V16.56 (21121100)
Test Result:
When an Excel workbook is inserted as an object, it does not appear in document, instead it shows a blank box when selected.
Possible Workaround:
- Downgrade to earlier version (16.55) till the issue is resolved, you can install V16.55 from the support article.
- Try using Paste Special option to paste as Microsoft Office Graphic Object.

Further to my earlier reply I hope the following is of help to others affected by this issue.
- Use a recognised uninstaller to remove Word. I just removed Word.
- Before you do this however go into one of the Office programs and turnoff auto updates. (I went into Excel and turned off auto updates).
- reinstall Word 16.55 from the the website mentioned by Microsoft.
You should find that the problem is resolved provided that you don't turn auto updates back on.
We will have to wait until Microsoft resolve the problem before we can turn auto updates on again. Personally I will turn auto updates off until I see something in the Beta updates that shows this problem has been addressed.
I hope this helps other users. So far this solves the problem for me. All my previous documents and updates to them now display the Excel object properly.

This is a known issue.
You can use Time Machine to revert to 16.55
Restore Microsoft Excel.app in the Applications folder to a build from the previous month.
