16.0.13801.20182 is the problem - either upgrade to 16.0.13801.20288 or downgrade as I wrote below and have been working for 3 days without the error.

This has NOTHING to do with Windows updates.

This is caused by the "Office 16 Click-to-Run Licensing Component" and its latest update to version 16.0.13801.20182 or later.

Rolling back to version 16.0.13530.20528 (aka "Version 2012") will solve the problem.

See below I have been error free since the downgrade after 3/7/21

    Hi martinmcintyre,

Sorry for the inconvenience the problem caused for you.

According to your error information, it seems that your error is caused by KERNELBASE.dll. Here are some methods I have found for you, and I hope they could help you:

    1. Update the Windows system. Check if there are any new Windows-related patches or service packs. DLL errors may be caused by outdated Windows operating systems. Try to update the Windows system to see the result. Here are the steps: Open Windows Settings>Update & Security>Check for Updates>Please restart your computer after completing the update.
    2. Run System File Checker.

    a. Type Command Prompt in the search box of Windows and choose the best-matched one. Then right-click it to choose Run as administrator to continue.

    b. In the command line window, type the command sfc /scannow and hit Enter to continue.

    c. Then the System File Checker will begin to scan and fix the corrupted system files. Please do not close the command line window until you see the message verification 100% complete. When it is finished, reboot your computer and check whether the error 0xc0000409 is solved.

    1. Try to fix Office client, by performing a repair. Try a quick repair first, and if that doesn't work, try the online repair.

If the problem persists, could you please provide a screenshot of your Office version(open an Office application>File>Account>capture a screenshot of the Product Information column) for us?

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn

I have a brand new Dell laptop with the latest Windows and had 0 errors on Reliability History. Working fine.

Truth is, Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus was working fine for 1 month (received the new laptop 1 month ago) until last night automatically received the update from Version 2101 (Build 13628.20448) to Version 2102 (Build 13801.20266).

Now, I turn on my computer and have the SAME issue (see below error). The problem is the update. Had the update not occurred, I'd had never known about this error. Your Office is fine and the program just crashed as a result of the update. Likely a one-time item.
