Hi,

I’ve got two outlook email accounts on my iphone and  both are constantly requiring me to re-enter my password. Its only started happening over the last 3 days and becoming increasingly annoying. I know other people that are having the same issues, so I’m not sure if its something to do with the latest IOS update. I would be grateful if anyone has any information on how to ressolve this.

thank you

I dont actually use the outlook app just the internal iphone mail app and i have been asked multiple times a day to input passwords for my MS mail accounts since updating. On my Ipad whitch i have not updated to IOS14 i have no issues.

Yes, iOS 14 seems to be a contributing or aggravating cause for sure. I'm just curious to see if the Outlook app might be a workaround, and/or deleting the outlook.com account for the Apple mail app and recreating as an Exchange type account. I suspect the Exchange solution with the Apple mail client might not be a permanent fix, but interested to hear from anyone that has switched to Outlook a while ago, to see if that does not suffer from the issue. I have 2 devices that are configured with the Outlook mail app against MS O365 accounts (similar to outlook.com probably), and they do NOT suffer this issue, so I think it is possible that the Outlook app is OK.

Same issue here for several outlook.com-Accounts on different devices. Problem persits on all acounts since updating to iOS 14. For some accounts, 2F-Authentication is activated using Microsoft Authenticator, a different account is using passwort authentication... Did anybody try to readd the account?

I suspect it is one of those tricky ones that might be a combination of client and server-side factors - so Apple and MS - but certainly Apple is involved, since this seems more prevalent on iOS14 and the iOS default iOS mail app. It's tricky to troubleshoot, since several days go by and it is fine, and then it will again start prompting daily (or thereabouts).

Could I kindly ask anyone that has tried either of the below to confirm if it is has been a permanent solution for them (eg. no prompts for at least a week - otherwise it is too early to be sure):

    1. Deleting the iOS mail account, and recreate as an Exchange rather than Outlook type as per: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7705394
    2. Switch from iOS mail app to the MS Outlook mail app

I had this problem, but after I deleted the Outlook account and reinstalled it under Exchange on both the iPhone and iPad, everything has been working fine for about 2 weeks now. So fingers crossed this is the solution.

Dont hold your breath. As Others have found it’ll be back.

Without doubt a microsoft problem. When you respond to the pop up it takes you straight to the MS Live/Outlook login screen where you have to enter the password even though its still stored on your device. so clearly the microsoft account isnt accepting the credentials the apple device is offering.

Microsoft doesnt give a damn for anyony who wont fall for their ‘everything as a service’ business model, aka pay, pay and pay again for the same old sh1te. Once a fan, i have come to despise them for their greed and arrogance. Break them up I say.

Why do you think this is a Microsoft problem. After authentication iOS receives an authentication token to log onto the system. If iOS then thinks the token is invalid, it prompts you to login again so it can retrieve a new token, which is again valid for a few days.

A friend of mine still has an iPhone 6, which is still running iOS 12. He is not experiencing any issue at all. This makes me believe the issue lies with iOS 14 and not with Microsoft.
