Why is it when I copy cells from Excel and paste it into Gmail, the cells are pasted as an Image?

I usually copy and paste cells from Microsoft Excel to Gmail for work, this was was being pasted as an table of text that I could edit.

Then my computer was reformatted because of some issues and now after trying to use it again for work, I tried copying cells from Excel and pasting it in Gmail as usual, but now the cells aren't being pasted as a table, but as an image, like a screenshot of the cells. Could it be a software I had before or something?

Now the only way I can copy and paste cells from Excel is to go through Word, which adds an extra step.

I tried reinstalling MS Office, and it still didn't work, I'm currently using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019.

    This is an issue with Google Chrome 91.0.4472.101. When copying from Excel, one can see using the 'Clipboard & Drop Inspector' app that an image is associated with the plain text in the copied table. When you do the cut and paste into Word trick, you can see the associated image disappear and only rich text in the clipboard.

    Google should either:

    Make Gmail prefer rich text over file when handling paste events in browser

    OR

    Update Chrome to stop the image pasting behavior

    I had a user in our environment bring this up today. I've confirmed that this began happening with Chrome's newest update.

    I was on version 91.0.4472.77 today and it worked fine, updated to version 91.0.4472.101 and it pasted as an image.

    I use lastest Chrome and latest Firefox, Office 365 subscription and Google Workspace on regular PCs - the latest version of everything and the Gmail image pasting issue is persisting as we speak (type). Google sheets is not an option for us as we have fixed wireless NBN (Australia) we do not have cable or wired internet. The Word pasting workaround works but is not acceptable. This fix is vital. PLEASE whoever own up and get it done!

    This is a pain as a workaround...but it worked for me. It involves first pasting your Excel table into Word, recopy the table from Word then paste that copy into Gmail.
