Dear Customers,

Since we have been receiving great amount of issue report from those customers purchasing Microsoft 365 services from unauthorized channel, we would like to write a summary here so that all affected members can easily identify the problem and get the suggestions:

Problem background:

When Microsoft determines that you are using an unauthorized Microsoft 365 account, they will run fraud identification processes.

Users identified as fraudulent may:

  1. See a banner indicating that “Account deactivation. We’ve determined that this Office 365 account is unauthorized. This account will be closed on <Date UTC>, and you’ll lose access to your files and Office apps on this date”.
  2. have their content marked read-only and will not be able to create or edit content on their sites. Any synced content will also be marked read-only from the date of fraud identification.
  3. Users will lose access to any content (e.g., files, data or documents) stored in OneDrive, at the time specified in the notification you received. After the time specified, any content stored in the OneDrive associated with this account will be permanently deleted for data security reasons and your protection.

Suggestions:

Prior to the account deactivation, you have the option to do the following:

  1. Save your data: Prior to account deactivation date, move the content you don’t want permanently deleted to:
  2. A new or existing authorized OneDrive account
  3. Any other physical storage device you choose
  4. Another cloud storage provider

For impact users that accounts have been deactivated, we have limited resource to deliver more help. If you still have concern, we would like to suggest you:

  1. Contact your tenant admin to create a support ticket if they challenge the state of their fraudulent license.
  2. If you can't contact your tenant admin, contact Global Customer Service.

Reference:

We sincerely recommend you purchasing Microsoft services from authorized channel to avoid security risk.

Regards,

Rena

I am a lawyer in California and, like all of you, Microsoft has deleted my OneDrive files. I believe there are several possible legal issues. Please reply and let me know if you are interested in looking into possible legal action against Microsoft.

You are not punishing who sold the accounts ilegally and made profit with it. You are punishing the customers that want to use your service the right way. Many people here didn't even know they were doing something wrong and are being punished, losing access to important files, work related and even personal photos. This is really not what I expected from Microsoft. I honestly thought you would give a chance for people to migrate their content to the right channel. What you are doing is really not nice.

    Agree with you wholeheartedly.

We are being punished by MSFT and the illegal sellers.

They have profited our $$$ and left.

MSFT has cut their losses to stop providing services to us.

Guess who are the losers? Us - we lost our money and (precious) data.

Who didn't know what was going on? Us.

MSFT, we are NOT the ones committing the fraud here.

It's like the bus driver smashed into your car, you got off and beat up the bus passengers, but left the bus, bus company and the driver to go on with their lives. This is really not nice and unfair.

    Dear Customers,

Since we have been receiving great amount of issue report from those customers purchasing Microsoft 365 services from unauthorized channel, we have contacted the related team about this problem. We would like to write a summary here so that all affected members can get the updated suggestions:

    Problem background:

As part of our strong commitment to the protection of our customers and our interest in preserving the quality and integrity of the O365 platform, we perform supplementary reviews of accounts which may exhibit irregular or suspicious activity.  Your account may be selected for one of these reviews and after careful consideration, it will remain closed.

    Suggestions:

We sincerely recommend you purchasing Microsoft services from authorized channel to avoid security risk as  admin can grant access to your OneDrive(e.g. when manage a former employee).

Furthermore, If we get any new updates from the related team, we will post back here as soon as we can.

    Regards,

    Rena

It has been several months now. What is the plan?

If the storage service is not provided anymore for certain accounts, fine, at least provide a time window so we can get our data back. What Microsoft gonna do with our data??
