OneDrive deleted local files and started syncing old files !

Hi,

OneDrive has suddenly deleted files in local folders that was not synced with OneDrive.

I installed OneDrive a while ago on my work computer and copied a lot of different files including Visual Studio projects to the OneDriver folder.

Later found out that OneDrive was causing problems for the Visual Studio projects and even though I had marked all folders to also be kept locally it wasn't working correctly.

So I moved all of the Visual Studio projects and several other folders back to the original location to make sure I had them locally.

Time goes by, and today when I turn on my computer I notice a lot of old files have been synced to my Desktop which is synced using OneDrive.

Then I also realize that the files that I moved out of the OneDrive synced folders have suddenly appeared again and old versions from back when I initially copied the folders are being synced again.

When I look at the local folder that is NOT synced with OneDrive, many of the files are gone - just like that - GONE.

There is no way to get the files back and all my recent work is lost.

I have looked in the online Recycle Bin and the Second stage recycle bin and none of the files are there (since they were never in OneDrive but only locally).

It seems like OneDrive has reverted the old actions of when I moved the files to the local folder and now old versions from back then are being synced.

This is completely unacceptable.

I have lost all my recent work.

How do I get my local files that has now been deleted by OneDrive but which was not synced with OneDrive back?

I had an issue with my OneDrive too. First of all, this OneDrive thing integrated with my PC is a total mess. It doesn´t let me move my "pictures" folder to the oder HDD, because for some reason, it can´t be done (because of OneDrive). Now, my cloud OneDrive folder was full and I did not mind it. OneDrive didn't let me deselect which folders inside my documents to synch for some reason too. Another strange function.

What happend 4 days ago and i just noticed it is that I noticed it synced back my old files.

So, my files were not syncing for 3-4 weeks. And 4 days ago (on Friday) I deleted some larger files that I do not need to allow syncing some excel files I would like to have on my mobile phone synched. A big mistake.

After I done that, OneDrive synced my OLD Excel file from the cloud and REPLACED my more recent saved excel file on my PC. So, all things I changed on that file for 3 weeks went lost. And I can not recover it, because OneDrive just offers me an old file version from few weeks ago.

Was cleaning out my laptop, deleted the onedrive file and everything from my computer had been deleted, things not synced to onedrive and synced, I had actually un-synced onedrive and logged out of it about half a year ago. re-downloaded onedrive and it restored the files from half a year ago. Half a year of artwork and music production along with important documents is gone, how is this even possible that onedrive can delete files that weren't synced to it.

looked it up and it literally states that this wouldn't happen

The same thing has happened to me. All of the work I have ever done has been deleted and very few files are showing up on OneDrive.

I'm actually suicidal at the thought of having lost my lifetimes work. Stupid me for not backing up before I suppose.

    Goodbye

UGH! I decided to pay for OneDrive after the initial storage was full a long time ago. I haven't used it in over 18 months but thought that backing up my work files on a cloud would be a smart idea. NOW ONEDRIVE ERASED ALL OF THE FILES I WANTED TO PROTECT. WTH??

Is there any fix to find my files that have been erased off of my computer??? I am so mad right now and on a business trip.

I have the same issue! Ive been storing files in my work folder in my personal one drive account for Microsoft 365. I formatted my machine, signed into one drive and all my recent work has disappeared! It shouldn't allow you to store files in the explorers one drive directory if it isnt syncing!
