OneDrive deleted local files and started syncing old files !

Hi,

OneDrive has suddenly deleted files in local folders that was not synced with OneDrive.

I installed OneDrive a while ago on my work computer and copied a lot of different files including Visual Studio projects to the OneDriver folder.

Later found out that OneDrive was causing problems for the Visual Studio projects and even though I had marked all folders to also be kept locally it wasn't working correctly.

So I moved all of the Visual Studio projects and several other folders back to the original location to make sure I had them locally.

Time goes by, and today when I turn on my computer I notice a lot of old files have been synced to my Desktop which is synced using OneDrive.

Then I also realize that the files that I moved out of the OneDrive synced folders have suddenly appeared again and old versions from back when I initially copied the folders are being synced again.

When I look at the local folder that is NOT synced with OneDrive, many of the files are gone - just like that - GONE.

There is no way to get the files back and all my recent work is lost.

I have looked in the online Recycle Bin and the Second stage recycle bin and none of the files are there (since they were never in OneDrive but only locally).

It seems like OneDrive has reverted the old actions of when I moved the files to the local folder and now old versions from back then are being synced.

This is completely unacceptable.

I have lost all my recent work.

How do I get my local files that has now been deleted by OneDrive but which was not synced with OneDrive back?

    Hi

I was always sceptical about using online storage systems but i took the leap of faith and stored all my files and working on onedrive. However i will never use an online storage system again as i lost over 5 years of work.

The microsoft team were very unhelpful and just emailed general respeonses and often a different person each time. It seemed like they have a general reply and copy and paste the email each time.

They told me that the files were deleted and could not be recovered so i lost all the work. I hope that you have better luck as I know i was in utter deperation to retieve the work i lost.

    regards

    sonya

    {{ EDITED:

I think I have found the problem and it was my mistake. The files were most likely not reverted at all and probably I had mistaken the files inside OneDrive with the one I'm working on which I put in other place because it is a copy with similar name. Therefore, I think this case is closed. I would like thank you guys for trying to help and would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. That sounds ridiculous and even more so when it happened to me two days ago.

I've been working on a file in onedrive for a year already, and two days ago, they magically reverted to a version from two months prior. That's two months of work gone just like that. I've contacted the support team and is still waiting for their reply.

In the mean time, have your problems solved and what steps did you take to solve it?

    Regards.

I have had the same issue. OneDrive has deleted all my folders and files from my OneDrive and also from my PC. They were extremely important files.

    Hello Higgins,

opening a thread won't solve any problem, as many people are experiencing the same issue, i think there should be a broad solution for this, you just say start a ticket, or a thread so you it won;t look  like a wide spread problem and many people discussing the same problem, i lost few days of work because of this issue!few days of work cannot be solved by a "Sorry" or "open a thread or a ticket", as long as my data is still lost, especially when it is personal and work data!, we as customers put our trust in your products and pay for this! we are not using OneDrive for free!

i hope you get my point and provide a clear and start to the point solution.
