Updating office and getting an error message (Office for Windows)

I have the same problem with Office Pro Plus 2016 when using Outlook. I've tried the fix using Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features-> MS Office -> change -> quick/online repair but this is temporary. After 1-2 days the update splash screen will reappear and I get again the same error.

I found a different temporary "fix" that doesn't involve constant "repair" of the installation nor restarting the computer. Open the Task Manager, go to Services tab and Stop the "ClickToRunSvc" service. This will kill the "OfficeClickToRun.exe" process which seems to be responsible with the update splash screen. I could then open the Outlook app, go to File --> Office Account --> Office Updates and manually update the product. It shows now "Version 2102 (Build 13801.20294 Click-to-Run)". Still this doesn't seem to fix it permanently as the update splash screen (and the associated error) reappears after a day or two, but maybe MS can have a look into what this service is doing wrong when trying to update the Office products.

I personally think Office just wants you to put out some more money to update the program.... They should not have that control once you have purchased one of their products. Unfortunately no money in that.

I have the latest version. Still have all these problems at various  times.  :(

I have a user in the company I work for, that keeps having the same issue.

Office reports it is updating, and then errors (0xc0000142) .

I've tried disabling sleep mode , online office repairs, new user profile, completely uninstalled office and re-installed/updated.

She has an identical computer / OS / drivers / BIOS / Group Policy settings / AV / software to all other computers in the company, accesses files that other colleagues use.

Yet she is the only one with the same recurrent issue. It's incredibly frustrating that I can't permamently fix this for her. Only temporary solution that works is an online repair. Seems to fix it for a week or so, then the problem recurs.

I find that I am having problems with Win 10. MS Edge, and Powerpoint. It worked fine till 3 am today (3/30). Then an update went through the computer and a restart.  I can access the MS tools only if I go through the tools on the MS site. My subscription is paid annually through the same university I have been at for the last three years. I can access it on my phone, but not the laptop.  Awkward as I needed to do a verbal presentation of my project at 11 am today. I am not mad; stuff happens. But, I have 4 weeks left of online and on-campus classes, and it would be useful if someone could steer me in a good direction.
