Updating office and getting an error message (Office for Windows)

its not an unusual problem. i have been having it for months. i ended up buying a new 365 subscription to try and fix it since I was still running Office 2016 and it worked that day but then the problem came back again. hours and hours of wasted time and frustration. i thought MS only messed up the Apps they bought, like Skype. now even their own are unreliable and annoying.

Of course, being forced to reinstall Office every day isn't normal, and it is a fairly unusual problem.

Which type of subscription are you running? Family or Personal (for home users) or one of the professional/business versions?

This is the last Office subscription year I will have, Now almost everyday I need to reinstall office, because it tries to update and then I am not allowed to open Word, almost the only app I use. I am on a 365 subscription and I don't want to have to repair and download 500MB of data every second day only because Microsoft does not assume they have created a problem - as you also did, recently, with Outlook, and it lasted for weeks... -

As I mostly only need Word, I will have to find me a solution that does not force me to repair things every second day. What a stupid bug... And the terrible thing is that my subscription was just renewed - Microsoft did take the money from my bank account automatically - else I would simply stop this madness. Now I've another year of this.

So this morning, Office updated and now I can't open any Office document. I get an error message.

Tried to repair the software but that didn't help.

I decided that since the problem wasn't getting fixed easily, I would de-install the Office package and re-install it completely. I tried de-installing and it won't let me. It says that Excel is open and I must shut it down. Excel ISN'T open (I looked in Task Manager - the app is not open!). I tried restarting the system multiple times. Now I can't even de-install Office in an attempt to fix the system.

If a repair doesn't work and you can't uninstall, use the Uninstall support tool (see Option 2 in the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uninstall-office-from-a-pc-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8) to get rid of Office. Reinstall from your account.

Before you remove your installation, make sure that you can access the associated account athttps://www.office.com/myaccount (applies to home user versions).
