How do I turn off the end of support banner in office 2010 permanently? (Office 2010, Windows)

Hi, 

I have a home and student edition of office 2010 that I am perfectly comfortable with. Every time I open the office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), MS helpfully points out that support is ending and that I should upgrade to a newer version. Screenshot attached. 

I would like an exit from this persistent nagging and quasi privacy nightmare. Some regedit skills are in place and I can follow instructions when clearly given, even if they are complex in nature.

    Its a win setting not an Office setting, when Support ends so do any updates/bugfixes/security updates and MS will remove the backup install from their site

    I can confirm that the same works for Office 2010 Home and Student (Office 14.0) versions

    Office 14 does not have a 'ClickToRun' key so it needs to be added.

    Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\  Add a new registry key (Right click; New key) called ClickToRun

    Add a DWORD to you newly added key path Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\ClickToRun) (Right click; New DWORD) called UpgradeAdvertised and set it to 1 as mentioned.

    So in summary, when complete, you will end up with a new key called : Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\ClickToRun that contains a REG_DWORD called UpgradeAdvertised with a value of 1.  (See Pic)

    Disclaimers apply.  Don't run Regedit unless you know what you are doing.

    BTW: Does anyone know what "MS will remove the backup install from their site" even means ?

    Interesting to note that, while MS no longer supports the product, they somehow do devote resources to counter register hacks that turn off the nag banner...

    It is of course only fair that they do not support a one-time purchase forever, but this nag tactics is just plain annoying. And quite frankly, I do not see many improvements to their product over the last 10 years. Certainly none that would motivate me to pay their high price again for a new version of Office!

    I have been using Libre Office before, and it is actually not a bad alternative. Just saying there are viable alternatives out there...

    Thanks for the update.  I've added it to my notes.

    I did one additional thing.  In the Body / Title key I added the sub key it is in, ie "...0:en-us"

    This way, if the message reappears I will know exactly where it is coming from.

    .

    I doubt that deleting the TargetedMessagingService will work. I expect that if during startup of any Office 2010 app it sees the whole key "missing", it will "help you" by "correcting the defect" of the missing message by inserting it again ... without telling you!

      Someone please give us an answer that works instead of asking a zillion questions that is typical of this forum.

    Hint: Sniping at the free support we are providing is no way to get help.

    I tried the registry key mentioned earlier, it appeared to work, until it didn't any more ...
