Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) High CPU

I am using Office Home & Student 2019 with Windows 10 Home. The June update was recently completed to Version 2005 Build 12827.20268.

After installing this update I noticed that Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (SxS) showed continuous 24% CPU utilization in the Task Manager. Power usage was shown as very high. This did not occur prior to the update. I have metered connection set in the network settings and discovered that the problem goes away if I turn off metered connection and restart the computer.

Does this sound like a bug in the latest update? I have Office 2013 on another computer and there is no problem on that system with metered connection set. I'd be interested if others have seen this problem or have any suggestions.

Hi KenBell6 & Everybody else,

Just got latest update for my version of Office (Office 2016 ProPlus Retail - 32bit).  Found it on Current Preview Channel.  Downloaded it and rebooted my PC and CPU Usage is back to what it used to be.

Don't know if it's a permanent fix, hope it is, but it seems to be working fine so far, after 3 reboots (just to play it safe).  I have several Office apps open, and as you can see above it looks pretty good.  Good luck everyone, let me know if it worked for you.

    I think you may be on to something about rebooting computer.  Late Friday (Saturday 02:00) I did another Windows 10 repair (Data Limits).  Again the CPU usage dropped to less than 1% normal, and less than 3% with Access, Word, Excel & Powerpoint open.  Everything was running smooth again until just about 1 hour ago.  Malwarebytes installed an update, which required a restart, and guess what?  After the restart C2R is running 10+% again with no other Office products running.  There seems to be some kind of a problem between Win 10 and Office trying to get along with on another.  Hopefully, there will be some type of response soon, I hope.

    That was surprising that the BIOS update brought back the problem. I have noticed that every boot of Windows is a little different. My system with conventional hard drive boots in anywhere from 22 to 28 seconds after the beep at completion of POST. I've also seen differences when checking the Windows Event Viewer.

    I also posted this problem in the msofficeforums and no replies have been received. That suggests that only some users are seeing the problem.

    Let's hope that Microsoft has been able to recreate this problem and will release a working update soon.

    I see the new release listed in preview as well, but when I checked for my version, Office 2016 Pro Perpetual version, version 2006 isn't listed.  You may be right though, this may be the fix needed.  Microsoft probably will come up with a release for it 365 subscription subscribers first, you'll have to keep me updated so I can keep checking.  I'd appreciate any updates.
