Hello All,
We believe we have corrected this issue and Stocks are refreshing again. Go to the Data tab in the Ribbon and select "Refresh All". You can verify an update occurred by observing the Last Trade Time field. Please note that depending on our agreement with the Exchange, some instruments will only provide new data after End of Day. See more about our data sources here: https://support.microsoft.com/office/about-the-stocks-financial-data-sources-98a03e23-37f6-4776-beea-c5a6c8e787e6
If you're still experiencing stale data after refreshing, please reply to me with your location, platform, and the ticker symbol/name of the financial instrument that you observe not refreshing.
We also hear your reports around the field "Market Cap" now being missing from the Stocks data. We are investigating this change and hope to have the field re-enabled soon.
Lastly, we apologize for the frustration you feel toward the Stocks data type. We are going to reflect on this outage and digest your feedback, and hope to come up with a system to train customer support how to escalate outages and a surface to alert Status toward resolution.
Thank you,
Kaycee
Chitrahaas,
I appreciate that you have reported the issue to Microsoft; however, telling everyone to go to their app and report the issue doesn't really make sense to me. I spent 20 minutes yesterday reporting the issue to Microsoft support, which I had to painstakingly explain what the feature was, how it worked, how it was used, and all the dozen steps that I had already taken (like many here), only to have them "check on it." Then we wait, and eventually they say "hey, you're right, there's a problem!" I said, ok, can you give me any sort of status update (preferably, which is what everyone wants to know, is what is the estimated fix time, which is important, because several of us will need to make a decision as to if we find another source and then rework all our spreadsheets, which for me personally would take hours and hours). I was simply told "thanks for reporting this, looks like other people have reported this and we forwarded it on; is there anything else I can help you with?"
My point is that contacting MS through Excel isn't going to get anything done any faster, at least based on my interaction with MS, and they already know and acknowledge there's an issue. If they need 5,000 people to contact them before they figure out they have an international issue affecting every one of their platforms, then no one is listening to anything.
I'm not using MS products for free...I pay an annual subscription, of which 80% of my subscription value sits with this Stock integration. I'm happy to pay well over $1,000 a year if there's an integration with Excel that has downtime similar to what my AWS servers do (essentially zero). This is the third stock integration in Excel that has gone south, which has cost a lot of us hours and hours and hours. So, aside from spending 20 minutes a day with MS support, how do we help ourselves here? This may seem like a rant, but it's not; it's business...this is a critical application and integration for a lot of people, and essentially MS going dark on the topic is really a big slap in the face.
Help us help ourselves...or better yet, use your resources to get someone to fix it, then everyone is happy and we all get back to work.
I am experiencing the same issue as described by others on this forum.
My updates stopped at the close of the markets on 9/15/2020.
Like other folks have described, I have a number of options to rebuild my spreadsheets, but no success.
This is a really great feature that I use all day during market hours and would like MS to resolve urgently.
Just for the record, I am having the same problem - and rely heavily on reasonably up to date stock prices in my numerous spreadsheets. Have sent feedback to Microsoft from Excel.
