I don’t see hope this can be strictly an Apple problem based upon the number of pc owners experiencing this same error.

I have this message appearing on my iPad every 20 seconds or so. I use an Office365 exchange account to sync email, contacts and calendar onto the iPad and also use Onedrive for storage along with Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
I have had periods of tim when this error message appears, but usually only for 24 hours max. If it is for a prolonged period, I found that deleting the Exchange account from the iPad and setting it up again often cured the problem.
This time it has been going on for weeks, with no let-up. I have deleted and set the account up again twice, to no avail. Please help it's driving me bonkers.

I had the same problem, and message, all day today. I think I finally fixed it. After doing the normal stuff (phone of, then on; delete Hotmail account, then add it back) the thing that so far is working is this: I went to Settings, then Passwords & Accounts, and Deleted an old subscription Account from TripIt. Turned off the phone, then back on, and so far is working fine.
I have the same bug on my phone every couple minutes
With respect, I beg to differ with those suggesting this is a “Microsoft problem.” I am suddenly seeing this message on both iOS and OS X devices. I do connect with an Outlook server for a paid management email account service on Microsoft’s Exchange platform. My email address is related to a domain I own and DNS is set up to direct mail for my own account on this domain to the Exchange server. I also had problems related to another email account (entered into the internet account settings on my iOS and OS X devices (in system preferences) which sits on mail servers provided by another hosting service (NetworkSolutions) for another personal, though unrelated, domain I own. NetworkSolutions warned me and issued instructions to deal with “trust” problems with the certificate for their server, related to protocols instituted and managed by Apple with regard to such certificate trust matters. I am not technical, but in layman’s terms, I understand the problem to be one of Apple tightening the security screws another turn or two... I lay the blame on them.
Good luck getting them to correct it. Incidentally, following NetworkSolution’s protocol for dealing with this, which involved manually installing the certificate from them directly into the repository for such files accessible through the Mac OS X Keychain Access utility.
I only hope that Microsoft will be faster to respond than I expect Apple to do so, to straighten this true pain in the **** out with a workaround.
My wife is also seeing this on her iphone and ipad. Any suggestions Microsoft?
I finished up on the phone with Microsoft. What they had me do was remove the account from the iPhone in Settings >> Passwords and Accounts >> that email account. I selected to delete the account, it spun for a few minutes and then I decided to reboot the phone. I went back to the same settings page. The account was still there. I disabled the "Mail" item for that account which is located right about "Notes". This has stopped the pop up messages so far. I think the error might be related to the built in mail app and not necessarily the Outlook iPhone app. Since I use the Outlook app for mail and calendar, this is good enough for me so far.
