After searching online in vain to troubleshoot an issue for over an hour....

does anyone have a number to Microsoft help (where a human being answers?)

    1. I'm not asking for a specific Windows version number, but when the computer starts up it will tell you, at some point, that it's Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, etc.
