Click-to-Run High CPU Usage

Recently I noticed that there was a background application constantly running on my PC called 'click-to-run'. It runs from the moment I switch on the PC and it never stops and even if I stop the task, it will simply start again. It uses around 25% CPU load and when opening an Office app, like Word, that app uses another 25%. I am using Office 365 which I downloaded through the Education bundle which they offer. Is there a fix for this high CPU load please?

    Hi Hugo,

Sorry, when I reinstalled Office it must of reverted back to the previous build. I have updated to 12827.20336.

I believe I am using Microsoft 365 Family or Home. My other family members do not have this problem.

Last Windows update is Windows 10 version 1903 which was 30/08/2019. There are some more recent driver updates but none to coincide with this problem.

What I have discovered is that this problem is only happening when I am connected to a metered network (i.e. mobile hotspot). When I was connected to a normal WiFi network, it would work fine. Also, if I start any office application while I am not connected to a network, it works fine. If I have the office application running prior to connecting to my mobile hotspot it also keeps working fine.

It is only when I am connected to my mobile hotspot and then try and start an office application.

Also what I noticed it that whenever I open a new office app, for example word, for some time there will be two Click-to-run programs running and then one goes away. So there are two applications of the same thing running at once.

    Hi Hugo,

Word still consumes a lot of CPU as well yes and Click-to-run is still running in the background. There are no more updates remaining, and when I close all office applications, Click-to-run still continues to work.z I will try to use the repair link you sent me.

    Regards,

    Stephen

I updated Office, unfortunately the problem still persists and Click-to-run still starts on boot up and still consumes 25% CPU constantly.

This is my About section screenshot, hope it helps.

    Thanks in advance.
