One drive online files take space on Macbook

I have One Drive installed on my MacBook.

When right-click on the One Drive icon in my Finder and click “get info” it says under size:

172.298.589.945 bytes (39,5 GB on disk) for 57.162 items.

So the way I interpret this is that only 39,5 GB should take space on my Macbook disk. Which is in line with the documents I store offline on my mac (some pictures and music)

However, when I look at the actual disk space used (I click apple icon on home screen, click “about this mac” and then under Storage tab it shows me that my stored documents use 178,4GB. And with that my Mac storage is almost full.

I have no other documents on my Mac, I keep everything in One Drive or ICloud. Icloud is totally online, no files are offline. And One Drive I have only a few files offline.

So why does it seem to take all my storage nevertheless?

I have upgraded my OS to Big Sur (Version 11.6) and have One Drive version 21.170.0822.0003 (standalone) installed.
I am finding that the file and online & local drive sizes are reporting correctly.
I am not sure if Microsoft or Apple have now fixed the problem.
Anyone else having success with this combination ?

I have the same issue. I have two user accounts. Each of them have one drive enabled and roughly the same size. Only a small amount is available on the local disk.

    .

My other mac session also has another ondrive account with similar size hence the 288GB on Other Users.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I was experiencing this issue since I installed one drive in 2019. Due to this I turned off the feature and had to live with the broken feature.

It was on Catalina. I held off updating to Big Sur due to a personal preferences at the time and now Monterey is out.

I have got a new M1 Pro today which comes pre installed with Monterey and I’m looking forward to using the newer OS and silicone.

I will install one drive on this and see if the files on demand works correctly as it should. Fingers crossed if it worked for you on Big Sur.

Anyone else got any updates with one driving being fixed on Big Sur/Monterey?

This has going on for a long time and would be good to close this up finally!
