Autosave Option Disabled - Office Mac

All my files are saved on OneDrive folder (which is synced). When I open a word file from my OneDrive folder, the option to AutoSave is disabled and I can see a msg "Saved on your Mac". How is that, if it is on Onedrive and syncing ??? I have, then, to save a new copy, select Save Online, chose the SAME FOLDER, chose another name, and then, the Autosave option is enabled. Does anyone know how to solve it?

I found the autosave function of my office 365 works again today.

I did nothing except keeping my office 365 up to date in "insider slow" channel.

mac OS: 10.15.1

onedrive: 19.222.1110.0004(Standalone)

office 365: 16.33(19120401)

    We have this issue with one costumer also. But seems to only occur in their tenant, for both existing and new users. If we log in with users from other tenants on the same machine everything works.

    We have tested this on no less than 5 different MacBooks with both Catalina as well as Big Sur betas.

    Always reproducible.

    Log in with a user from the affected tenant, autosave never works

    Log in with a user from a different tenant, autosave always works.

    I've put more than 50 hours on troubleshooting this with reinstalls, testing different versions, different computers as well as working with the support.

    Hi Xepoor,

    It is very important to let Microsoft know your findings. This forum is good for airing the issues, but it is not a communications channel to the Microsoft Developer team.

    Before proceeding, be sure your installation is current. The current update is 16.40

    How to check your version of Office:

    Go to the application menu. For example, in Microsoft Word, go to the Word menu. Then choose About Word. The resulting dialog tells you which version you have.

    Then, go to the application's Help menu. Choose the Feedback/Contact Support option. Using that method you send your feedback to the appropriate team for each application.

    I have solved the issue following this steps:

    1. Open OneDrive preferences/Office and disable "Use Office applications to sync office files that I open". Then quit the OneDrive App.
    2. Open OneDrive App again and go to preferences/Office. Enable "Use Office applications to sync office files that I open" and quit OneDrive App.
    3. Open OneDrive App and go to OneDrive Folder (within Finder) and open any word or excel file. The AutoSave button is turned on automatically.

    I very hope that this trick helps others
