Autosave Option Disabled - Office Mac

All my files are saved on OneDrive folder (which is synced). When I open a word file from my OneDrive folder, the option to AutoSave is disabled and I can see a msg "Saved on your Mac". How is that, if it is on Onedrive and syncing ??? I have, then, to save a new copy, select Save Online, chose the SAME FOLDER, chose another name, and then, the Autosave option is enabled. Does anyone know how to solve it?

I found the autosave function of my office 365 works again today.

I did nothing except keeping my office 365 up to date in "insider slow" channel.

mac OS: 10.15.1

onedrive: 19.222.1110.0004(Standalone)

office 365: 16.33(19120401)

I have been given a work around.

After contacting microsoft their solutions was to navigate to the file from within the microsoft application.

Therefor if you would like to open an existing word document you have to first open word, File, Open, click on Onedrive, and then navigate to the specific file and open.  All this must be done within the application you are planning to use.

If you have an excel file you want to open in the same folder you have to open excel, open, Onedrive and navigate to the specific folder.  If you have multiple levels of folders this is a frustration and a time waster. Needless to say if you open the file via finder autosave is off but once you save "offline" version is updated to the Onedrive server.  I hope they find a solution for autosave to work from finder.

I've been having this problem for a while, today I was able to restore autosave when opening from Finder by doing the following:

    1. Quit any office apps that are running.
    2. In OneDrive's preferences, on the Office tab, turn off 'Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open'
    3. Quit OneDrive (More->Quit OneDrive)
    4. Start OneDrive again.
    5. Turn 'Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open' back on.

For me, after this I was able to navigate to my OneDrive folder in Finder, open a file, and have Word/Excel etc recognise it and turn on auto save.

    OneDrive: 19.232.1124.0008

    Office: 16.36

    macOS: 10.15.4

    Hope that helps some people!

It seems our prayers were finally heard. Yesterday everything started to work properly. I believe they finally fixed the issue. At least YESTERDAY it was working with me.

I didn’t have to do anything. So I believe they fixed on the backend.

Did more people get the issue resolved?

Yes. I confirm this is now working for me. The option "Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open" must be ticked, though. Thank you all very much for your determination and the pressure you put on Microsoft. Best. Ronan
