Autosave Option Disabled - Office Mac

All my files are saved on OneDrive folder (which is synced). When I open a word file from my OneDrive folder, the option to AutoSave is disabled and I can see a msg "Saved on your Mac". How is that, if it is on Onedrive and syncing ??? I have, then, to save a new copy, select Save Online, chose the SAME FOLDER, chose another name, and then, the Autosave option is enabled. Does anyone know how to solve it?

I found the autosave function of my office 365 works again today.

I did nothing except keeping my office 365 up to date in "insider slow" channel.

mac OS: 10.15.1

onedrive: 19.222.1110.0004(Standalone)

office 365: 16.33(19120401)

Under OneDrive or at least your desktop folders you can select whether the doc is saved to OneDrive or the local device

The file you are opening is not saved to OneDrive, but the local device

Hi, thank you for your help, but all the folders are saved on One Drive. When I use the command "Save As" on Word, I save on the same folder, same file name, but I just chose to Save Online on Word, and then I can use Autosave. But if I open directly from my OneDrive folder, the Autosave option is disabled.

I can confirm the OP's report.  I am facing the same issue so perhaps I can add some info.

On two of my Macs, I have a fresh install of macOS Catalina (10.15 with supplementary update).  I downloaded OneDrive and the Office 365 suite from Mac App Store.  Say, now, I have a Word file in my OneDrive folder.  Whether AutoSave is On depends on how I open the file -

    1. If I open the file from Finder, Word is unable to detect that the file is actually saved on OneDrive, so AutoSave is disabled.
    2. If I first launch Word, go to File > Open, choose "On My Mac", navigate to the OneDrive folder, pick my Word file, Word is still unable to detect that the file is actually saved on OneDrive, so AutoSave is disabled.
    3. If I first launch Word, go to File > Open, choose "Online Locations", pick my Word file, Word now knows that my file is on OneDrive, so AutoSave is on.

This appears to be a bug.  I have two other Macs, both were upgraded from Mojave to Catalina (rather than a fresh install), on one the Office 365 and OneDrive were standalone, on the other the Office 365 and OneDrive were from Mac App Store.  On these two other Macs, Autosave is On regardless of how I open the file.

I have attempted to reinstall the products but to no avail.

For your information, my OneDrive version's 19.152.1013.0012 and my Word version's 16.30 (19101301).  Both are the latest versions available on Mac App Store.  On all Macs, OneDrive Finder Integration is enabled.

    Many thanks.
