Autosave Option Disabled - Office Mac

All my files are saved on OneDrive folder (which is synced). When I open a word file from my OneDrive folder, the option to AutoSave is disabled and I can see a msg "Saved on your Mac". How is that, if it is on Onedrive and syncing ??? I have, then, to save a new copy, select Save Online, chose the SAME FOLDER, chose another name, and then, the Autosave option is enabled. Does anyone know how to solve it?

I found the autosave function of my office 365 works again today.

I did nothing except keeping my office 365 up to date in "insider slow" channel.

mac OS: 10.15.1

onedrive: 19.222.1110.0004(Standalone)

office 365: 16.33(19120401)

This reply won't help anyone for reading it, but I can confirm that this issue spontaneously resolved itself for me this afternoon. Software and hardware are unchanged. My theory at this time is that there is/was a server side issue in registering OneDrive and the folder/file location on my new laptop (e.g. Excel/OneDrive checks the server for a given file to load syncing/collaboration tool, this check fails, and file opens as a locally saved file even though it's in OneDrive).

Hope everyone else receives their spontaneous fix soon.

    I have the same issue.

I have a MBP 2018 15" TB when opening a file from Finder AutoSave is off.  I turn on AutoSave and follow the prompts and AutoSave remains on.  When I close my word file and open it via Word recent or Word open file AutoSave remains on.  HOWEVER, when I open the file via Finder it redownloads the file from OneDrive and AutoSave is off.  At this point there are two directories on Open recent, one via OneDrive folder (Actual OneDrive Account linked through Word) and one via the macOS folder structure to OneDrive folder.  At this point if I try to open the file from the OneDrive folder, AutoSave is off.  It seems to be related to permission, my Full Disk Access for OneDrive is on and does not make any difference.

My mother has a MBP 2017 13" nonTB and her OneDrive AutoSave works via Finder (macOS folder structure to OneDrive folder, which is created by the OneDrive App).  We are on the same package with a shared Microsoft Office 365 Home (Microsoft 365) account. She can still view documents I have shared to her and AutoSave works.

My Friend has a MBP 2019 13" TB  and a Mac Mini 2014 and his AutoSave does not work using the same process as myself on the MBP 2018 15" TB.

My fathers MBP 2017 13" nonTB works on a Microsoft Business Premium account and his AutoSave works.

All computers are running the same software versions.

    OneDrive: 19.232.1124.0012 (Standalone)

    Office: 16.36 (20041300)

    macOS: macOS Catalina 10.15.4

According to my observation, the AutoSave with OneDrive Personal is disabled at new Apple devices or after complete operating system reinstallation. After several weeks it could spontaneously get back to work. Or not. I couldn't figure out what it depends on. And, I suppose, Microsoft too - otherwise they fixed the problem long ago.
