Microsoft Auto Update gives "One or more updates package could not be downloaded" message

This is for MacOS 10.14.5

Microsoft AutoUpdate is v 4.12

Office Updates are 16.26

Worked with first level support to completely clean my Mac of all microsoft products and reinstall latest package.

Ran in SAFE MODE no change.

Ran Cocktail and Disk Utility no change.

Repaired permissions no change.

I post this issue (which I believe is only showing up on my Mac - others in our house don't do this - every time an update occurs. First MAU comes up with an update to itself which doesn't download, then I take a new copy of MAU off the MS website and install it manually, then it works and shows the new updates which then won't download - same issue, so I then download the whole MS office and install it, then everything works again until the next autoupdate which then has the same issues.

Watching the progress bars it appears that the files just don't want to download and save in whatever spot it's trying to put them.

Just to clarify - I have MAU 4.12 now, and I have Office 12.26 installed. Everything is the latest. But MAU runs and says a new MAU needs to be installed and that is 4.12.0 and when it tries to download is when this happens.

    Alex

I have installed the 12.26 version of office that you gave me the download.

Prior I used CleanMyMac to completely deinstall the applications and all associated files. Then I went through the various folders and looked for anything microsoft and deleted that too.

Then I installed 12.26 all except Outlook which I don't need. Installation went quickly and as normal - no red flags.

Started up Excel and Word just fine and checked their version numbers - good.

Started up MAU from the help menu and ran it - its back to V4.12.

Showed the MAU update to 4.13 required. Started the update and it behaved the same way as always. Downloaded the package, started unpacking, got the "one or more packages..." error.

So I'm back where I started. If I manually download MAU 4.13 then I get back to seeing V12.27 of office and they won't download because 4.13 isn't downloading. So I can now replicate the problem again.

I am having the exact same problem and have for several years.  Using another profile does not yield any different results.  I have to manually download the updates from the https address in the autoupdate.log.  There are many threads on this issue, none with a solution.  It would be helpful to understand what signatures are being compared.  Perhaps there's a corrupted file on these Macs (including mine) that is causing this issue.  I have other Macs in the house that work just fine.

It sounds very much the same as my symptoms.

I have replaced OSX, replaced the complete MS Office package, switched users, and run Cocktail and Disk Utility. I just installed 12.26 so I went backwards to see if any difference and no change.

I have not yet seen a clue as to where this issue might be since we are able to download from that update server at MS. Microsoft knows about and is working on this issue. I suspect that there are more people suffering from this than reported. I believe many people are just downloading and updating manually. It does seem to be machine-specific because I also have other Macs that work fine who have the same SW environment as my Mac.

    Hi All,

Thanks for your feedback here. We have noticed there are several similar reports on the MAU in this community.

As I have narrowed down the issue with Michael before, the issue summary has been sent to our related resources. At this moment, I will also inform them that there are multiple users have the similar issue.

Once I receive any update from them, I will post back here as soon as possible.

Greatly appreciate your patience and time.

    Regards,

    Alex Chen
