Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings - endless notices

I keep getting the following in my office products:

RESTART REQUIRED  Restart office to apply changes to your privacy settings

I have not made any changes to my privacy setting recently yet keep getting these prompts. Anyone else running into and discovered what the cause of it is?

    Hi Sir CharlesJones32, I'm Pamela Jane Palomata. I tried to follow your instructions but it still appear always when I open one of my MS Office like MS Excel.

    Update:

    I have a ticket open (probably closed in their mind) on this with MS, and I just responded to their request for feedback. 

    I called O365 for Business Sales to ask if moving to the business product line would stop this behavior, and they were clueless in regard to what I was talking about.  I got passed off to support, and the rep didn’t really listen and insisted on a remote session to see what I was talking about. 

    Of course, I had already restarted Outlook (I didn’t call for support) and the flag wasn’t there any longer (for the day). He proceeded to repair the O365 installation and assured me my privacy was never compromised (no $hit!). When I let him proceed I thought just maybe he knew something I didn’t. 

    I appreciate the resopnsiveness of the call to MS, but neither my inquiry or issue was addressed. I’m capturing screenshots for the next session (assuming MS responds to my review).

    This issue has been bothering me too for months.  I made a setting change today and so far the Restart message has not come back.

    Windows Settings

    > Privacy

    > Diagnostics and Feedback

    --> Diagnostic Data: BASIC

    **This is what I changed below**

    --> View Diagnostic Data:  TURN ON

    it took me to App Store to download the software.

    After restarting my computer and starting Outlook, Word and Excel, NO RESTART OFFICE MESSAGE !!!

    I think what was happening is that the diagnostic data needed the app to save the information, even the BASIC only information.  since I didn't have this app, it was causing the error.

    Maybe this will help for you too if you didn't enable this feature.

    Thank you for the feedback. Mine has stopped giving me the messages as well but I believe because I recently updated and I’d bet my privacy settings have been changed again for me.

    The whole point I believe is if you turn off data sharing with microsoft in privacy, the annoying message behavior starts. It sounds like what you have done is just enable the data sharing, at least basic. I have not had the chance to test if my settings have been changed yet. Might be possible a recent update has finally fixed this issue.

    Will report back.

    I also have all Windows General Privacy options set to OFF.  I do not wish to share any data with them.  However, under the Diagnostic setting it only gives you two choices, Basic or Full.
