Disk Utility warnings in OS X Mojave and OneDrive for mac

OneDrive for Mac (v 18.222.1104.0007) is causing error in OS X Disk Utility (OS X Mojave 10.14.2 and 10.14.1):

warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xcb5b5): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

Found this being OneDrive by re-installing the operating system and also by converting 0xcb5b5 to decimal format and running " find / -inum 832949 " in terminal.

I also send a support ticket but those tips didn't work (see bellow):

-------------------- START OF SUPPORT ANSWER -----------------------

Dear Customer,

You are now in contact with the support team by e-mail.

Regarding your issue please verify the following information in the article to check if the issue is related to this:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3125202/restrictions-and-limitations-when-you-sync-files-and-folders

After verifying the information above please continue to reset the OneDrive app:

1-Launch Activity Monitor & Kill OneDrive processes

2-Launch Keychain Access and delete OneDrive keys

3-End OneDrive processes and Keys

4-First, navigate to the OneDrive application. Then you Control-click the application. When you do that, you should see the following menu appear:

5-From that menu, select “Show Package Contents”. You will then see a list of folders and files within the OneDrive application. Note: don’t mess with things in here as it could break your application.

6-Within the “Contents” folder, scroll down to the “Resources” folder.

Search for: ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command

It’s not an application. It just a script that is run in the terminal. Note, when you run it, you may need to authenticate as an administrator.

To run the script, just double-click on it. It should launch Terminal and run through a variety of options. Once it has finished, you are done!

7-Once you have run the script (and already did the other 2 items earlier), you should be able to launch OneDrive as if it were a completely new installation. You should be prompted to enter your login information and start synchronizing.

------------------------- END OF SUPPORT MESSAGE --------------------------

Only thing happened after "clean install of OneDrive" was that the DiskUtility error is now this (the object value has changed):

warning: inode_val: object*(oid 0x1281e1**): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)*

Is this a known problem or something new?

Hi All,

Thanks for letting us know your situation and sharing your experience here. We totally understand your frustration for encountering this, we are always more than willing to help all users in this community.

We have discussed internally with higher level support resources on this issue. Disk Utility error warnings occur from Mac Disk Utilities and Terminal since both are Apple products, it is hard for us to get the source code for further investigation even though we would like to do. We also do not understand the logic it used to flag the OneDrive at first place. So we believe it is the best to reach out to Apple support first for this case.

From our side, a support ticket number is required for our product team to check more details if you still need our help. Once the ticket is created, please post back here as soon as you can. We will contact our related team again then.

We really appreciate your understanding.

Even with the new version (18.240.1202) the problem persists.

I tried to delete and recreate the folder Onedrive: deleted the folder, Diskutil no longer reports errors; recreated the folder, the warning reappears.

I can confirm. Even with the new version (18.240.1202.0004) the problem is still there ...

    "Checking snapshot 8 of 8.

    warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xb219e): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

    Checking the extent ref tree.

    Checking the fsroot tree.

    warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xb219e): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)"

Disk Utility (First Aid) still points to the Onedrive folder!

Also just posting with a "me too".

I was also observing Disk Utility (checking a fresh Mojave 10.14.2 install on a APFS SSD drive with FileVault turned on) erring out repeatedly with:

    Checking the fsroot tree.

    warning: inode_val: object (oid 0x2966f0): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

I just finished step 6 of 9 that reddit user CyanobacterialSin posted about his issues with "warning inode_val invalid bsd_flags" at

https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/a9liie/myfix_fsroot_tree_error_and_error_warning_inodewhen I decided I would try a fresh install of 10.14.2 and check out the disk with Disk Utility.

All was good. No errors found.

    Checking the fsroot tree.

    Verifying allocated space.

    Performing deferred repairs.

The volume /dev/rdisk1s1 appears to be OK.

File system check exit code is 0.

Restoring the original state found as mounted.

    Operation successful.

Then I installed OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-ca/download/) which installed  18.222.1104.007 (Standalone) and then linked it to my Microsoft account. Waited for OneDrive to sync my 953MB. Did a reboot. Logged in and confirmed that OneDrive was in sync. And then did a Disk Utility check.

    Checking the fsroot tree.

    warning: inode_val: object (oid 0x3000da746): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

    Verifying allocated space.

    Performing deferred repairs.

The volume /dev/rdisk1s1 appears to be OK.

File system check exit code is 0.

Restoring the original state found as mounted.

    Operation successful.

So the inode_val invalid bsd_flags (0x10) error reoccurs again after OneDrive did its sync. And though Disk Utility says that it did deferred repairs, the error remains on subsequent disk utility checks. It does not matter if the disk was converted from HFS+ or was natively already APFS. As soon as OneDrive is installed and configured to synch, the invalid bsd_flags (0x10) happens again.

If I unlink the account from OneDrive (which quits OneDrive and leaves the OneDrive folder contents in my home folder) and do a disk utility check, no errors are found.

I would guess that some OneDrive process is not properly handling APFS snapshots.

Note the Disk Utility message is a warning, not an error, and First Aid reports that the disk appears to be OK. It does not do this with errors.

I could not find any adverse effect of the warning, but I wanted it gone!
