Disk Utility warnings in OS X Mojave and OneDrive for mac

OneDrive for Mac (v 18.222.1104.0007) is causing error in OS X Disk Utility (OS X Mojave 10.14.2 and 10.14.1):

warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xcb5b5): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

Found this being OneDrive by re-installing the operating system and also by converting 0xcb5b5 to decimal format and running " find / -inum 832949 " in terminal.

I also send a support ticket but those tips didn't work (see bellow):

-------------------- START OF SUPPORT ANSWER -----------------------

Dear Customer,

You are now in contact with the support team by e-mail.

Regarding your issue please verify the following information in the article to check if the issue is related to this:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3125202/restrictions-and-limitations-when-you-sync-files-and-folders

After verifying the information above please continue to reset the OneDrive app:

1-Launch Activity Monitor & Kill OneDrive processes

2-Launch Keychain Access and delete OneDrive keys

3-End OneDrive processes and Keys

4-First, navigate to the OneDrive application. Then you Control-click the application. When you do that, you should see the following menu appear:

5-From that menu, select “Show Package Contents”. You will then see a list of folders and files within the OneDrive application. Note: don’t mess with things in here as it could break your application.

6-Within the “Contents” folder, scroll down to the “Resources” folder.

Search for: ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command

It’s not an application. It just a script that is run in the terminal. Note, when you run it, you may need to authenticate as an administrator.

To run the script, just double-click on it. It should launch Terminal and run through a variety of options. Once it has finished, you are done!

7-Once you have run the script (and already did the other 2 items earlier), you should be able to launch OneDrive as if it were a completely new installation. You should be prompted to enter your login information and start synchronizing.

------------------------- END OF SUPPORT MESSAGE --------------------------

Only thing happened after "clean install of OneDrive" was that the DiskUtility error is now this (the object value has changed):

warning: inode_val: object*(oid 0x1281e1**): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)*

Is this a known problem or something new?

Hi All,

Thanks for letting us know your situation and sharing your experience here. We totally understand your frustration for encountering this, we are always more than willing to help all users in this community.

We have discussed internally with higher level support resources on this issue. Disk Utility error warnings occur from Mac Disk Utilities and Terminal since both are Apple products, it is hard for us to get the source code for further investigation even though we would like to do. We also do not understand the logic it used to flag the OneDrive at first place. So we believe it is the best to reach out to Apple support first for this case.

From our side, a support ticket number is required for our product team to check more details if you still need our help. Once the ticket is created, please post back here as soon as you can. We will contact our related team again then.

We really appreciate your understanding.

Yoga

I also removed OneDrive from my 10.14.3 volume, but I did it by searching with EasyFind to locate every file with OneDrive in the name, (visible/invisible, in package etc etc). There were about 90 files. I deleted them all, rebooted and ran Disk Utility....warning gone. No doubt it is not necessary to delete every one but maybe necessary to delete more than you did?

Thank you for the suggestion. I uninstalled using an app called AppZapper which is supposed to get rid of the additional files. I downloaded and ran EasyFind to find lots more files, I removed all of those, restarted, but I am still getting the error message. Right now, I am more concerned over getting a solid backup than OneDrive working, I can live with the website until it is fixed but the thought of this issue ruining my backup is upsetting.

Note that, if it is the same message being reported by everyone else, it is a warning, not an error. The First Aid report completes saying the disk appears to be OK. If there are errors it reports that it could not be verified.

Before I knew the source of the warning I tried erasing my internal, reinstalling and migrating from a Time Machine backup as a attempt to clear it. I did this a couple of times, including a direct full drive TM restore.

The restores worked, but still contained the warning of course because I had not deleted OneDrive at that stage.

So the warning did not prevent successful restore from a Time Machine backup.

I will say in passing that I have had frequent failures to restore directly from TM backups which have been nothing to do with this warning. In general I have much higher success rate using a clone as the source for a migration restore than a TM backup. TM has been great for retrieving files, not so much for whole drive restores.

Thanks so much for the clarification on the restore, much appreciated! Good to know about the TM restore, I've thankfully never had to restore and have other backups but if I had to restore, a successful TM would be the easiest.
