Disk Utility warnings in OS X Mojave and OneDrive for mac

OneDrive for Mac (v 18.222.1104.0007) is causing error in OS X Disk Utility (OS X Mojave 10.14.2 and 10.14.1):

warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xcb5b5): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

Found this being OneDrive by re-installing the operating system and also by converting 0xcb5b5 to decimal format and running " find / -inum 832949 " in terminal.

I also send a support ticket but those tips didn't work (see bellow):

-------------------- START OF SUPPORT ANSWER -----------------------

Dear Customer,

You are now in contact with the support team by e-mail.

Regarding your issue please verify the following information in the article to check if the issue is related to this:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3125202/restrictions-and-limitations-when-you-sync-files-and-folders

After verifying the information above please continue to reset the OneDrive app:

1-Launch Activity Monitor & Kill OneDrive processes

2-Launch Keychain Access and delete OneDrive keys

3-End OneDrive processes and Keys

4-First, navigate to the OneDrive application. Then you Control-click the application. When you do that, you should see the following menu appear:

5-From that menu, select “Show Package Contents”. You will then see a list of folders and files within the OneDrive application. Note: don’t mess with things in here as it could break your application.

6-Within the “Contents” folder, scroll down to the “Resources” folder.

Search for: ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command

It’s not an application. It just a script that is run in the terminal. Note, when you run it, you may need to authenticate as an administrator.

To run the script, just double-click on it. It should launch Terminal and run through a variety of options. Once it has finished, you are done!

7-Once you have run the script (and already did the other 2 items earlier), you should be able to launch OneDrive as if it were a completely new installation. You should be prompted to enter your login information and start synchronizing.

------------------------- END OF SUPPORT MESSAGE --------------------------

Only thing happened after "clean install of OneDrive" was that the DiskUtility error is now this (the object value has changed):

warning: inode_val: object*(oid 0x1281e1**): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)*

Is this a known problem or something new?

Hi All,

Thanks for letting us know your situation and sharing your experience here. We totally understand your frustration for encountering this, we are always more than willing to help all users in this community.

We have discussed internally with higher level support resources on this issue. Disk Utility error warnings occur from Mac Disk Utilities and Terminal since both are Apple products, it is hard for us to get the source code for further investigation even though we would like to do. We also do not understand the logic it used to flag the OneDrive at first place. So we believe it is the best to reach out to Apple support first for this case.

From our side, a support ticket number is required for our product team to check more details if you still need our help. Once the ticket is created, please post back here as soon as you can. We will contact our related team again then.

We really appreciate your understanding.

Just to point out that as I said in the original post I had this issue already with Mojave 10.14.1 (and with 10.14.2 and now with 10.14.3).

I would also suggest that it would be great customer service from Microsoft's end to contact Apple directly and I really want to believe that Microsoft want's to make great products also for Apple users who also are paying for Microsoft's software.

This is clearly a development issue / bug and should be addressed asap also from Microsoft's end.

True. The problem does date back to Mojave 10.14.1 on my iMac.

Not only do I second JanveCI, because the problem does indeed date back to Mojave 10.14.1, but after Rena's reply that basically bounces the problem back to Apple, I have an extra reason to have removed OneDrive from my Mac. Interestingly enough, after this removal, sudden crashes for no particular reason have also stopped.

It seems to me that Microsoft and Apple have stopped collaborating in these past few years, and in fact the only apps that are being developed for the Mac OS by now are only within Office, and this OneDrive issue seems to prove my assumption. Why WE should tell Apple about this and not Microsoft, it is beyond me. We are not beta testers, we are consumers.

I shudder to think what could happen when Apple releases a major upgrade, namely the one that will put 32-bit apps to sleep.

    Good luck everyone.

    Alessandro

    Hi All,

I'd like to share a summary for the issue here which will benefit other community members.

    Symptoms:

In Mac Disk Utilities, there’s error code when we run First Aid. The error is related to OneDrive sync folder when we analyze it in Terminal. This may cause Mac failed to back up files. But this will not affect OneDrive tool working itself.

    Environment:

The issue happens in the latest Mojave 10.14.2 and the latest OneDrive version 18.240.1202.0004.

    Assessment:

We have reported the issue and we have got the updates from the related team. Based on the investigation, the issue can’t be reproduced with the same OneDrive version in Mojave 10.14.1. Therefore, the issue may be caused by Mac OS upgrade.

We can understand how the issue is affecting you, and we also want to deliver help as much as we can for this problem. However, as the error code is from Mac Disk Utilities and Terminal, and the issue appears in Mojave 10.14.2 but not 10.14.1 which means the issue may be caused by OS update. As there’s no issue in OneDrive itself while it’s running, and we are restricted by Mac OS resource, we suggest you get more help from Apple Support.

    We appreciate your understanding,

    Rena

Why don't you guys get in touch with Apple?

Is that not what you should be doing?

I have received communication from your team that this issue has been reproduced by your team on macOS Mojave 10.14.2! It also happens with 10.14.3!

Why do we have to do your work?

There is an issue. It has been reproduced. It involves OneDrive. It is between OneDrive developers and Apple. No other application has been reported with any similar issue apart from OneDrive

This has been going on for 2 months now. There is potential data loss.

Please get if fixed and stop putting the load on the users that are not part of the development process of Microsoft Products.
